Just wondering if anyone has used Proactiv and what they thought of it. A friend of mine is thinking to get some for her daughter.

My advice is don't try it ..:uhno:
My DD tried Pro active few years ago had relay bad acne ..
after all the expense yes id did work .
But it Bleaches all the towels.. at the end of the day her skin became so dry that it started cracking
'She looked like a porcelain doll.she was to scared to smile because the product drys your face .
It took 12 months with special treatment to put moisture back in here skin.
Loss of self confidences ..and the scaring
that the product left behind..
So My Advice is DON'T TRY IT ..
There is a natural alternative from the chemist
that works relay well for half the cost .!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cleaning your skin every day with witch hazel is good for young problem skin. Also eating as much fresh food as possible and avoiding preservatives.

you know if it is for acne the doc can give you a script for a lotion called Clindamycin it takes hours for the chemist to make though, from memory its antibiotics in a liquid form....so it has to filter thats what takes the time.

i used it about 25 years ago and it worked well......

Zinc tablets also help.

Have tried Proactive (have terrible acne adult skin) and it was terrible, very drying and way too harsh, if anything caused more blackheads. I use Dermalogica and it is so good.

i used proactiv and noticed it starting to clear up within 3 days. my skin did dry out a lot to start with so i bought the green tea proactiv moisturiser which felt so good on my skin and kept it hydrated.

By the sounds it has it's pros and cons, though I like the sounds of what Ally is using. I wonder if we can get it here... my dd has a troublesome skin. Her dermo continually prescribes racatan tabs (spell)... prob is she never completes the course... says it makes her sooo moody

Roaccutane - tried this a while ago and it made my ears peel, terrible drug and very strong.

It is a terrible drug. This is the warning from the FDA in the US about accutane/roaccutane.

Possible serious side effects of taking Accutane include birth defects and mental disorders.

1. Birth defects. Accutane can cause birth defects (deformed babies) if taken by a pregnant woman. It can also cause miscarriage (losing the baby before birth), premature (early) birth, or death of the baby. Do not take Accutane if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while you are taking Accutane. Do not get pregnant for 1 month after you stop taking Accutane. Also, if you get pregnant while taking Accutane, stop taking it right away and call your prescriber.

2. Mental problems and suicide. Some patients, while taking Accutane or soon after stopping Accutane, have become depressed or developed other serious mental problems. Symptoms of these problems include sad, "anxious" or empty mood, irritability, anger, loss of pleasure or interest in social or sports activities, sleeping too much or too little, changes in weight or appetite, school or work performance going down, or trouble concentrating. Some patients taking Accutane have had thoughts about hurting themselves or putting an end to their own lives (suicidal thoughts). Some people tried to end their own lives. And some people have ended their own lives. There were reports that some of these people did not appear depressed. No one knows if Accutane caused these behaviors or if they would have happened even if the person did not take Accutane.
