The teacher wasn't very old either, probably only out of uni a couple of years. That's really frightening.

so what if he goes to church and youth groups etc, that doesn't make him a better person just cuz he tried to strangle his teacher. They should have refused bail. If I were her I wouldn't go back to that school either.

How sad. I'm sure she's a very good teacher. Did they say what caused him to behave like that?

Are you a teacher Christine?
Yes, I am. I work with 8th grade special education students. (Thats around 12-14 years old) My main focus was the deaf but now I'm also working with students who have learning disabilities or behavor disorders.
I have to say I love teaching special education much more than regular education. Special education allows me to really get to know each of my student more indepth. But I don't love my job enough to be willing to get strangled!

Wow. That is just terrible. I can't believe the sequence of events. Christine, my best friend, Stacy is a special education teacher and she has had some children that have tried to become violent with her. I believe it was when she was working with behavioral problem children. Have you ever experienced that?

Um, I'm afraid I have had students become violent with me Caroline. I've been teaching special ed for 16 years and especially in my early years I focused on deaf students with behavior issues. I've been hit, spit on, and even had fecal matter thrown at me. But to be honest I knew these students had serious issues- that's why they were in my behavior class and not regular ed.(though no student ever tried to strangle me- that's horrible!) I remember one student had what they called "reactive attachment disorder" that meant he couldn't really bond with people and had no real feelings for them... He was the one student that really scared me and I intentionally never turned my back on him. But later I found out that his mom had left him home alone with a baby brother while she went out to buy drugs and the house caught fire. The baby brother died in the fire. No wonder my student had trust issues . Sorry I seem to be going on and on.
