View Full Version : Snoring?
Hubby snores really loud thats why we have separate rooms but lately his snoring has got louder and the last couple of weeks I hear him choking when he is asleep. He said a couple of times he has sat up in a panic?
He has sleep apnea he has a machine with a mask but he cant/wont wear it he said it is claustrophobic.
Do you think he could seriously choke in his sleep?
( without any help from me :D)

i think you need to speak to the doctor, but i cant say i have heard of anyone choking in their sleep....
i heard on the weekend its the number one complaint woman have against their DH's

Jen i have heard of people making that choking noise in their sleep but i think that is the sleep apnea?
Have to say if my DH was making choking noises i would never think to try to wake him incase i frightened him ;)
I do hear DH snoring when i leave my bedroom door open but again i think Margot is as bad as he is & she sleeps beside me on the floor which is better then in my ear snoring.

 I would go to the Doc as well....but am guessing they would suggest he be wearing his mask:yes: as he is meant to be.
It is a scary feeling when you wake up choking.

There are CPAP masks which only fit over the nose that are good for people who are claustrophobic or won't wear the full mouth mask. The build up of carbon dioxide usually wakes them up, hence the choking sound. But if he isn't getting quality night time sleep, he'll have increases day time sleepiness which increases his risk of having a crash if he gets behind the wheel.
The issue with sleep apnea is that the brain literally forgets to breath. If he doesn't wear his mask, then his brain will - at some point - not reinitiate the involuntary breathing cycle & he could die.
Or, how about he is cut off from oxygen to the point were he becomes brain damaged?!
Also, sleep apnea doesn't promote REM sleep - which can lead to him falling asleep after becoming completely sleep deprived. Driving whilst sleep deprived is worse than driving drunk. So instead of killing himself, he could kill someone else.
I have just spoken to him about the choking he had a endoscopy just recently and it showed that his trachea is not functioning properly? His epliglottis seems to be weak and not doing its job properly. I think thats what it showed??
I can remember the doc saying to him lose some weight would help :)
Stormy he finds with the masks he is throwing them off through the night?

My dad had it before we knew what it was.
As kids we would watch him and see how long he could hold his breath for.:D
He didn't die from it . Mum said she used to kick him a tad to get him to wake up from that heavy sleep.:D I suspect she liked that bit...
My eldest brother has it as well, he wears a mask.

LOL did that to my hubby once when he was snoring. Thing is we had a water bed and there was a bit of momentum and I rolled him fair out of bed and onto the floor. I pretended to be asleep and he sat up saying "Geeze I fell out of bed". Never did tell him. LOL

My hubby and I sleep in a queensize bed I have a good bed in the other room but if it's him or me sick or he snores too much no matter.. why is it me that goes in to the other bedroom to sleep I've got out of bed when I've been sick and gone into the other room so I won't disturb him..when he's sick it's still me that goes into the other bed..never him.
