Do you have a herb garden or a pot of herbs growing at your back door?

I have mint, parsely and basil but thats about it, I love to use fresh herbs in cooking, especially mint in the peas and lovely new potatoes.

What do you have growing and how do you use it in your cooking?

I always have parsley, basil, garlic chives and chives growing and I add them to anything I can:hehe: at the moment I also have lemon balm (which I don't use for cooking- I just love the smell when I rub my hands in it:hehe: )
All my herbs grow in an old bathtub full of compost. I also have mint growing thru the lawn but I don't use it in cooking either.

Don, my bf, usually has 2 small herb gardens. One in the bow kitchen window & one on back porch. He does most of the cooking.

I love to use herbs in cooking. I don't have much growing at the moment too cold. Just have parsley, chives. Will plant some more when the weather gets warmer.

I have always intended to start an herb garden. Matt loves to use fresh herbs but they cost an arm and a leg! Any tips for growing them? Perhaps I will give it a shot before it gets cold again. Can you grow them indoors?

I'm with you Leigh :hehe:

As much as I would love to have my own herbs growing, I really don't use them that much to justify having the plants.

I would love to have a herb garden. I would start off with mint and basil.

Yep I use the stuff in the jar too...I dont use herbs too much actually...unless I do an actual recipe and it asks for herbs...but most of the time I dont follow the recipe anyway...

I would love to have herbs in pots on my kitchen windowsil...but it's too small.

Tutt tutt Leigh, Barbar and Teena...fancy using that horrible old dried stuff, you have no idea what you are missing out on. Herbs are really easy to grow..but they do like a fair bit of water.

I would like to see pics from the 3 of you when you start your pots of herbs off :P:P:P

I love my herbs....Steve keeps asking what the nutritional value of basil is...it seems to be in everything I cook at the moment. I have rocket, coriander, parsley, basil, oregano, chives, french sorrel, thyme, mint and lemongrass. They sit outside on the deck and get the occasional beating from the cats :) Yummmm...that's it, time for a tomato and basil sammich.

Look what I did today Patricia...looks pretty good to. I just hope I think to use them. I've got them right near where I make meals so I should.

Oh and we have a strawberry plant in there too...just 'cause the kids wanted to...

wow that looks good Telori, make sure the birds don't beat the kids to the strawberry, my husband grow herbs, in fact he has a dam good garden, grows everything, and have to agree with Patricia fresh herbs are completely different from dry, where I live it is very dry, hot, and rocky hills thyme grows wild and covers the hills the whole village smells of thyme

Now I just have to use them...the girls like the idea of fresh chopped parsley and I will use the basil leaves to deter cockroaches but I'm not sure about the others...mint can be used in drinks I think....oh and the chives in anything...

I have oregano, basil, and rosmary ATM. I would like to plant more when I get a chance. My dill always dies and I use that the most.

Rosmary stakes are great to use for kebabs.. instead of using a wooden stake, just soak and poke the veggies on the rosemary branch. It gives tons of flavor to your food.
