Oh, that is just awful. With an attack that severe, there should be no question but to put the dogs down. That is such a shame. :(

Did you see a little boy was attacked as well. In a different place and not by those dogs. He was bitten on the face...I didn't see the whole story, but he had a bloody cloth over his face and there was alot of blood on his shirt...
We had a Mastiff female, who was so protective of me and the girls, she would growl and snap at anyone who came near us...that included other family and friends. She never bit anyone but the thought was always in the back of my mind, so we had to get rid of her. I gave her to a nice man (who she went to straight away, without any snarling) and she bacame his guard dog. He runs a paint business.
I'm not trying to detract from this tragic story, but just to let people know that it isn't always the dog owners fault why some dogs attack or bite. But it is the dog owners responsibility to take care so the dog(s) doesn't bite or attack people.

They were 3 hunting dogs ( sorry cant remember the breed) and i say they will be destroyed. I feel for the family, but the dogs are only acting on instinct, especially the more known dangerous breeds. I own a kelpie who is fantastic with children but i think any animal or human would defend itself if a child were poking at it, kicking at it etc. Not that this is the case in every attack but the blame cant soley be placed on the animal. Irresponsible dog owners, parents and uneducated children result in tragedies like this one. :(

as much as i love dogs no breed is truely trustable. I have known labs to bite at people they know. In WA the owners are held responsible for the dogs attacking. One owner was put up on manslaughter charges because his rotties(3) fatally attacked a grandmother as she worked in her vegie garden. She was like 86 or something. It is a sad time for the family and the friends who owned the dogs
I am of two minds with this recent dog attack.
Obviously it sickens me that the victim died but what seems to be unimportant to the media is the fact that this child was left unsupervised in a house. She then got out of the house and crept thru a neighbours fence into the dogs enclosure. At that point the dogs did what came naturally to them - they were not pets - they were trained hunting dogs.
So who really was at fault here ?
The dogs were all on their owners property - inside their enclosure.
The childs parents were miles away.
I just dont think on this occasion its right to blame the dogs or even the dogs owner.
I will add to this - so its clear there is no bias - I am utterly terrified of all dogs of all shapes and sizes - and was the victim of a dog attack when I was 11 - when 3 german shepards leapt over a fence and got me and my father.
In my case the owner of the dogs had them confiscated and destroyed. He had been warned by the council for months that he could only have two dogs and they must be chained in the yard at all time because the fences were too low to keep them in. I was across the road in a neighbours driveway. Nowhere near the dogs and totally unaware of them.
If I had been creeping around the dogs backyard I think I would have been more at fault than the dogs.

I didn't see where the little girls was left at home alone...she was only 3 or 4...where were her parents?....I saw the bit where they were at the dogs place earlier in the day and she was playing with the dogs...maybe she just went back to keep playing seeing as she was all alone...
I think the parents should be charged as well for leaving her alone.

Good point
The little girl was an intruder and dogs naturally protect their territory, just as humans do. I really dont see how the blame lies with the dogs, i mean they're dogs, they dont understand that what they are doing is wrong.
Some control does need to be taken to ensure dangerous breeds aren't kept in dense residential areas maybe. Educating children is another approach at reducing these types of attacks.
I do feel sorry for all involved, what a terrible way to loose a child.

Every one is right. Who is to blame? Was the child allowed to pet dogs when she was there earlier or was she told that they would hurt her? Who is at fault.

Every part of this story is tragic and sad. Here in Virginia we had a rash of dog attacks. Just a few months ago one dog owner was charged and found guilty of manslaughter (I think that was the charge) because her three pit bulls atacked and killed an elderly woman protecting her own dog. It's just so sad.

I felt sickened when I heard this on the news the other night but when I heard the little one was in the dogs enclosure all on her own & her home was 4 doors away I immediately felt sooo bloody angry at the parents for allowing this to happen. Apparently the owner of the dogs had 4 dogs, only 3 were involved but he voluntarily had all 4 destroyed immediately
