Sushi

I am going out to dinner for a girlfriend's birthday tonight. We are going to a delicious sushi restaurant, one of my favorite foods! :bdance:

My favorite kinds of sushi are Rainbow Rolls, Dragon Rolls, Spicy Tuna, and Shrimp Tempura Rolls. I also love the Calamari and Edamame and Miso Soup for starters.

Does anyone else love Sushi as much as I do? What are your favorite kinds? I always love to try new recommendations! :)

I like sushi and so does rose.we don't have it that often to have a favourite but I keep meaning to buy the stuff and make it. Maybe for my birthday party great Idea thanx Caroline will add it to the menu

Oh, I have seen the sushi kits and have thought about buying them before. Does anyone make it at home?

I always feel that it just won't be as good...but if someone will convince me otherwise, I would TOTALLY do it! :)

I don't mind sushi but it's not very filling ... I also don't like getting it from those pre-made places when you have no idea how long it's been sitting there (especially the fish) but good sushi, freshly made is good. I like Japanese as a whole. I'm too lazy to make it at home.

No I am sorry..I like most foods but I just can't bring myself to eat raw fish...it seems to be very popular and I am probably missing out on something, but I am not a fan of cooked fish so no I am sorry raw is just not for me.

A friend of mine use to make her own sushi...her hubby worked on the trawlers here in Mackay and he'd bring home fresh fish...she would use different marinades (which basically cooked the fish anyway) to soak the fish and make it all up....it use to be yummy...I couldn't do it myself...I dont even like cooking fresh fish unless it's on the BBQ....

I've made it at home once...never again. What a disaster! Still, i'm no good at fiddly things and the profanity that came out of the kitchen was quite good. Love it though, my last job used to order in huge platters of it on Fridays..spoilt!

Oh, wow! Lucky!! My fear in buying a set is that I just won't have the patience to work on it!!

Well, it sounds like there are not many sushi fans on here!

You know, I used to be scared of it, too, but then started trying the ones that were not raw and loved those and eventually moved to the raw stuff. Its definitely a learning experience! :)

I love Sushi! My girlfriend makes it fresh for me..(she is a chef) and it is so much better when she makes it.

Although I have found a few places that are good and fresh. I cant stand the places that use immitation crab.. yuk.. like in the california rolls..

I love the Wasabi burn. I swear that is the main reason I eat sushi...

Yaaaay another sushi fan like me!! Yes I love sushi. Here we have two sushi restaurants........pink rice and Jaws! Here you sit down at a bar on a stool and choose whatever sushi you want as it comes around on a little fan belt. Each piece is on a coloured plate...each colour represents a different price. You just put aside your collection of sushi plates ..........when you have had enough sushi you take them up to the cash register and pay. Most of the sushi is cooked/prepared right in front of you........Yummo :)

Caroline did you know that the "lush" store make a sushi facial scrub/cleanser. It looks like a piece or nori roll sushi and is made up of aromatic herbs etc.......lol when I see it I get super hungry and want to go and have a sushi feast lol how sad is that rmao.

Starbrite...I have never seen Sushi served that way but it seems like a great way to see all the rolls to try new ones! I have never even heard of it going around on a little belt. I will have to look into it!

I love sitting at the Sushi Bar and having the Sushi made in front of you. Some of them are VERY intricate!

What is the Lush store? Sounds like something I need to check out! :)

I like when you get to choose the plates and see before you eat. There use to be a pace here called Tokeyo Delves and they have a picture for everything on the menu. They sing and the whole restaurant dances.. and they play the lucky lamp and whoever the light stops on gets their meal for free. It takes over 2 hours to eat your meal. They moved locations, I really miss them.

Then there are a few restaurants that have the food go around on water.. in a circle and you choose the plates/boats.

The craziest thing I have ever seen is where the sushi is placed on a girl and you pick it off her with your chopsticks and eat it. She lies really still and never moves. I did that once. I didn't pay but I know it was expensive.

Oh! I have seen that on TV with the naked girls and the Sushi. :blink: Is that at a restaurant? I always thought it was at bars or parties or something. :>:

They might have them at parties? This was in a restaurant.. It was over a decade ago, that I went.

It is crazy.. at first I wasnt sure I wanted to eat off her.. But I was hungry.

The sushi isnt directly on her it is on lettuce/stuff. She lies really still and doesnt move and everyone sits around her.

I love it! I have seen it on E! or something like that with celebrities...I would have been hesitant to eat raw fish off a stranger, too! :)

Caroline...............check out www.lush.com their goodies are just gorgeous they do mail orders too!! hmmmm don't think pink rice or jaws sushi bars sing etc though others might. I discovered some more sushi bars yesterday when I was out and about lol so will have to check them out at some stage wooo hoo!!! Actually bought some nori to make some nori rolls just need to figure out how lol.

Love Saki! We always order the Purple Haze which is Saki with Chambord in it. DELISH!!

Checked out the website...I am going to give them a try when my current stuff runs out! :)
