Did anyone see Today tonight, on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights with the single Mums stories. i.e. the ones who don't/won't work and the ones who do.
What did everyone think?
I sit on the fence with this one and think everyone has their own unique situtation and reasons for working and not working when they have children and they should just do what's best for them.

I didn't see the 2nd part about the working Mum's so can't really comment.
I think the section of single Mum's they picked was a bit unfair, not all single mum's are like those ones.

I didn't see this program but I will put my :2c: in.
My personal opinion is that I think a parent ( mum or dad) should be at home with their kids at least until they start school. Some working mums are lucky that they have a relative that can look after their kids when they return to work. I know not everyone has this choice and I have a lot of respect for working mums who can make this work especially the single mums out there- many without much support.
I don't judge people on wether they are working mums or SAHM some of my closest friends have been working full time since their children were babies and that is totally their choice and not for me or anyone else to judge.

I don't watch those types of shows, because they always try and make out that all single mothers are like those portrayed in the show, and not all of them are like that.
What gets me, is that they are forever coming down hard on single mothers, but do they ever do a story about the fathers? So many men have children and abandon them, both physically and financially but no one says anything about them. It takes two to make a baby, and at least the mothers are there looking after their children.
If you looked at the statistics, I would think an overwhelming amount of mothers stick around to take care of the child/ren, and in most cases, it's the father that takes off. I know not all father's do this, but in a lot of cases I know, that is the case and then they try and get out of paying child support.
As I've said before, in my case, my ex totally abandoned my son over 10 years ago, and has always tried getting out of child support. At present he pays $260 a year in child support, but pays out over $3500 for cigerettes!!!!

I saw it & have to agree with Leigh about the section of women they chose...I became a single mother after my 10 yr marrage fell apart & I was home with 1 yr old twins.......would I then be expected to go to work??
I think it was definitly an unfair attack on single "parents" and I think the govt. should try & gear more towards helping single parents into the workforce rather than force them & as this programme showed....try & "shame" them into it
Just my :2c: worth
