Hello everyone:waves:

Hubby and I have gone organic hehe
sounds ominous doesn't it lol. I must admit that up until now I have been a wee bit skeptical about organic food and their prices. They say knowledge is power..........well after reading up about it I think I would seriously be crazy not to change over. The facts are rather scarey. I would love to hear your views about what you think about going organic? Is the food a real deal or a rip off? What have you experienced. To me the food does taste so much better lol.:d:

I think organic is definitely worth it. I grew up on an organic diet (fairly difficult back then) and i generally stick to it. I must say the expense can be a little crippling at times, but it's only money :D and your health is more important. I usually won't buy non organic just for the price...i like to know what's getting in there! And the food DEFINITELY tastes heaps better....a tomato actually tastes like a tomato, not a water filled bag of slush!

I try and eat organic, too. I go down to Whole Foods in Denver...our prices are so high up here that I can buy organic cheaper down there than regular up here!!!

You can definitely taste the difference. I buy organic milk, eggs, vegetables, etc. Other things like pasta, crackers, etc, I do not.

I think you truely go organic unless you are growing it yourself...I wouldnt' trust that there were no chemicals or sprays or what ever else to keep the crops fruitful.

:hehe: We have our own veggie patch, and grow most things that we eat. Makes it a lot cheaper at shopping time and the taste is so must nicer

We don't use chemicals just all natural stuff and (what we call) Buddy planting, eg: we grow Marigolds in vegie patch to deter bugs and stuff !!

Hi all

wow fashmag.........organic all your life! Wow that must've been hard to do in the earlier years unless you grow yr own veg, lol and  vegies taste like they should.....potatoes aren't watery and sludgy like the tomatoes get as you mentioned hee hee potatoes tomatoes:D

Caroline......I can relate to the food prices being expensive...getting a bit like that in Oz with fuel prices going up. Funny thing is that some items that are organic..are actually cheaper that the equivalent non organic produce the goods are registered and certified so yeah that's good news:D. Why are the prices of goods so expensive in Denver? Because of your location?

Telori you have a point......I actually am in the process of setting up my own easy care veg supply...planning to be eventually self sufficient, as much as you can be in the city. The soil here has been sprayed ( a while ago now) so will be growing veg, herbs etc in pots. My dream is to eventually have a lil cosy home on a manageable size lot with a cow, chooks, easycare fruit & veg I figure one day this will happen, we can hope!!

Jodie....did you find it expensive to set your veg patch up? I have loads of questions for you so will pm you if that's ok.....let me know if that's ok to do so.

:hehe: Ask away, very cheap to setup our veggie patch, most of it is in pots but have coliflowers and carrots in ground, getting it ready to put more stuff in, might get done on weekend :dk:

The only things I buy Organic is Evan's yogurt. Why that and nothing else I do not know. Stoneyfield makes an awesome baby yogurt that he eats everyday. A little on the pricey side. $3.90 for the one with fruit and cereal in it and $3.55 for regular flavored. 6 packs only.

I have noticed that too, that if you pay attention, some organic is cheaper than others! As soon as I have a house I would like to attempt to grow some veggies.

Food is cheaper in Denver, was my point. MUCH more expensive in Breckenridge. I think its because its hard to transport here. That, and its a resort town so everyone charges more for everything because tourists will pay it.

$3.90 for a six pack of yoghurt! That's cheap, we cant buy it for under $4.00...unless it's going out of date in the next few days...which is what I do 'cause with 5 kids that eat it it doesn't last a few days anyway! :)

Oh I wish I could grow veggies!! The best I have so far accomplished is to keep my parsley alive (2nd attempt) and a small sage bush. I tried to grow tomatoes last year, and got a crop of one.

We do have a fabulous apricot tree, but we don't do anything but harvest them. It was here when we moved in, and all we've done to it is prune it once. It could feed a family of four for a month, and the fruit is big and tangy and.. and... just awesome. Anyone want some apricots? They are ripe about the second week in January, and there's so much fruit that a lot of it goes off.

I made a wicked apricot and banana jam last season, but I'm never quick enough and don't have enough jars to do the whole harvest.

I've had good luck with tomatoes if I grow them next to the house under an eave. A lady I know cuts a gallon milk jug (plastic) and buries that next to the tomato so that only the top portion is showing. This helps get the water deep, which is what the plant likes. I personally keep forgetting to do that trick. This year Im having good luck with cherry tomatoes, peas, and a variety of peppers.

wow I am still in shock! I was able to pick up a kilo of organic...yes ORGANIC locally grown bananas for only$7.99 a kilo! And they taste absolutely amazing!!! Good to see that you can pick up some organic bargains that aren't due to go out of date lol especially narnies which are soooooo expensive at the moment!
