Hi everyone.
I know this is going to be a strange question but has anyone used canned apples for cooking.
I always use fresh but someone suggested using canned ones. I don't usually do cans or tins when I can do fresh, but I might just be getting lazy.
What do they taste like?
Thanks.

I've used the tinned apples Bev...you need to add sugar or cinnamon or both to them 'cause they are pretty boring by themselves...I much prefer to stew my own. But if you can get their flavour to your liking they can be nice.

I use them occasionally. I think the apple and cinnamon ones taste like chemicals but the plain apple (SPC brand) is fine. If you want cinnamon, I sugget you add it yourself to the plain variety.
I am a very lazy cook so I've never done fresh apple (not even for Hugo when he started solids lol, he just got the prepacked puree) so I can't offer a comparison but I've never had a problem with the canned ones.

Hi Bev I have always used canned apples and prefer them but I also agree with Naomi & Telori to add a bit of cinnamon or sugar I have also used a little honey for this as well Good Luck
I use tinned apples for Muffins and cakes. Can't remember ever using them stewed etc, but I think they would be quite nice if you added sugar etc. Buy a tin and try them.

Thanks ladies.
Isn't it stupid to get to this age and say I've never eaten canned apples! I'm not use to eating canned anything much really when I can have fresh. Brought up that way I guess.
I will add extra sugar or honey as you have suggested.
I will also let you know as soon as I make something with them. I was thinking of Apple Crumble (small ones) like my mother makes. She uses real apples though. Also, my crumble has to be GF. I don't think that's going to be a problem.
Thanks to you all again!!!!!
