I just heard it on the news. I wonder how many people will take up this offer.

Probably heaps, I wonder if I can claim for mine seeing it was just done?

They will have to wait for parts that is the only problem...

I think it's a great idea...I would do it if my car is compatible...but I think the tank might take up alot of room in the back of the bus...I am going to look into it though, I dont want to be tied down by not being able to afford fuel...

Wish the US would do something like that....

Do you think though, considering there is already a wait for parts and whatever, that the places who do the conversions will just put their prices up more?

Yep you bet ya...of course they are going to charge more, heaps more, most LPG conversion places already have a 6 to 12 month waiting list...all it means is that people will have to wait and not only that, backyard people will open up and of course people will get conned big time...

I can already see it in the future on such shows as A Current Affair and Today Tonight, backyard gas conversions...they will always be a some idiot who will try and rip a innocent victim off...and the poor sucker won't know till he either tells his insurance and has to prove that a qualified mechanic installed it, they he won;t be able to get insurance for his vehicle...or the tank doesn't work and it leaks or has a million other problems...

yeah and the more people that use LPG the more the government will find a way to hike up the prices for it. Its just a big cover up to try and hide the profits they are making on fuel, rather than lowering fuel costs, this is a cheaper option for them.

There is already a huge shortage on places you can can even go to get a conversion and the cost is $2500 for smaller cars - $4500 for bigger cars which is the ones that need it most! So you will still be left to fork out grands.

Just another cover up and bandaid approach from the goverment. Quite simply, GREED! :hmmf:

Yes, it doesn't quite seem to make sense that they'd anounce this big 'help' but still not reduce petrol tariffs ... very odd

Government can't make any more changes to the price they receive from LPG till 2011, that is when the tariff will go up...so that is still a few years away...

Really I can't see the whole thing taking off, unless someone has a spare car to drive around in while the conversion is being done, who can live without there car for up to a week...

Just spoke to my ex, his boss is now quoting nearly $5,000 for a stand conversion, and his phone is running hot...

Problem is all the parts come from overseas...tanks etc, so again waiting on parts, I waited 10 months for my tank...
