Hail storm blankets Sydney

AN unexpected hail storm swept through Sydney this afternoon, leaving backyards blanketed in white and roads awash with ice.

My bf got caught in the hail storm while between job sites. He said the sound of the hail on the roof of his work van, made it sound like he was sitting inside a side drum:yes:

We had a loud storm, rain, lightning, thunder - but no hail. I was surprised to see it on the news, I thought it was footage from The Great Hailstorm of 1999.

Come out of work at Town Hall at 4.30pm and it was pouring and the street looked like a snow field a bit...very pretty, but gee it was a shock, was worried about my car parked at Hornsby, lucky no hail there...and it had stopped raining by the time I got there but gosh it was cold.
