I burnt some pots  well not some, all but one of my pots. I got side tracked and they all boiled dry :((

Is there anything magical that will help lift the crud from the bottom, they are pretty bad with bits of pea and carrot still stuck on there  . I have tried soaking them without much luck LOL

You could try oven cleaner- but test it first as its a bit corrosive- and make sure you wear a gas mask lol

Soak with bi carb of soda??

Or use stuff like gumption paste with one of those stainless steel scourers.

Moral to the story - don't cook!!! LOL

Oh yeah, couldn't have said it better myself!

The oven-cleaner sounds like a good suggestion. I had a look at my 1972 edition of the Readers Digest Complete Guide to Home Maintenance and all they said about saucepans was how to tighten the handle, so no help there.

We do all our vegetables in pyrex containers in the microwave (yes, we're probably slowly killing ourselves) but once I burnt some dummies I was sterilising in a saucepan. It wasn't completed ruined but I had to scrub for ages to get the gunk off. And then we got a microwave steriliser  .

It's been years since I burnt a pot, but made up for it in a big way. 3 at once

In the past Jake had a great idea to get them clean, he soaked them in petrol for a few days, and the stuff just fell off. I wasn't game to use them again though LOL

I'd be a bit worries about using the oven cleaner. I know it's metal, but if I scrub it a lot would it become purpose as all?

I had heard boiling them with heaps of salt in it helps, though have used that in the past without much luck.

Not sure how I will be cooking the veggies tonight LOL.

LMAO, how helpful they were back then, Us stupid women needing step by step instructions on how to tighten a screw.

Okay - not sure about this at all ... but doesn't coke have amazingly corrosive properties? My dad used to be a mechanic and they cleaned oil from the cement floor with coke. Would it be worth trying to soak it in coke?

Have you tried some of the trusty Ajax powder? Maybe make sort of a paste out of it and a little water...then scrub it with one of those copper scourer pads? Good Luck!

Imagine writing in to women's weekly with your pot cleaning tip ..petrol LMAO

I'd never thought to use oven cleaner! That's a great idea. In the past I'd just use a scourer with gumption paste. That does work, but you get a sore arm!

Are your pots stainless steel Leigh? If they are, I'd say it would be safe to use oven cleaner :)

I have used oven cleaner on my oven trays lots of times with no probs.

A friend said to fill the pot with water and a squirt of dishwashing liquid and heat on medium for a little while and it should come off easily

I agree with Floria. Soak in carb soda is good, probally for a day or so. Hope it helps.
