Hi Everyone,

Last night I decided to take a look online at the dogs at our local Animal Welfare ..and the first dog I saw was this gorgeous 2 yo Golden Retriever named Harry. He was surrendered due to a marriage break-up.

So, Gra & I decided he might be the perfect Golden for us, instead of going down the puppy road. As you can imagine, the second we set eyes on Harry this morning we were goners

Harry sits, doesn't jump up at all, and he's really gentle when playing tug of war with him. Harry is so good in the car, just lay down on the back seat and wagged his tail at us. Incredibly placid. It seems he's never seen a pool before, as he is a bit suss as he walked around the edge ..but OMG he spotted the fish pond and has christened that! I'll have to buy him a kids wader ..one of those clam ones I think would be great unless someone has a better idea?

What a happy day today is! :D

Harry's a funny boy, we bought him a rubber chew ball with rubber spikey doobers on it, and after much playing with it, he trots off and burys it in the garden! Just a small hole (thank god LOL) and completely covered it over. So I dug it out after a while and gave it to him.. off he trotted, looking back to see if I was watching, so I pretended I wasn't and he buried it in a new spot. Trotting back to me all pleased with himself :Hehe: .

Great news!! I think you have the best of both worlds with Harry, you have a fully mature dog "outgrown" the "troublesome" puppy stage, you have saved a dog from the shelter and as he is fully mature; you know his exact nature.. He is gorgeous too!!

Congratulations for rescuing Harry Wilma!
He is just gorgeous, you must be all so excited. :) Looks like he's settling in well but poor Bizzy seems a little put out! (the photo of Bizzy is excellent!)

Looks like Harry was made for your household. I don't imagine it will be too long before he thinks he's a burm! LOL

Harry is gorgeous Pam. You have a wonderful new friend who is over the worst of adolescent but is still in so many ways a baby. Give him a big hug for me. Jo

Thanks everyone!

He is such a quiet gentle placid boy, not jumpy or bouncy as we expected!

We left the outside sliding door to our bedroom open all night,(I have mozzie bites now lol) just incase he got lonely and wanted to come and sleep with us. We actually called him, but he just stood at the door wagging his tail, but wouldn't step into our bedroom, so obviously that's from his last owners.

We had him inside last night whilst we watched tv and he stole a cushion off the couch, carried it around for 10 mins before putting it at Gra's feet and laying down. Looking forward to the Burms and Harry becoming friends, I'm sure it won't take long, the hissing at the door has stopped, and the burms are pretty much ignoring him.

I think obedience classes would really polish him off, so will do that when he's completely settled in with us :) .

Ohh Pam, Harry is just adorable! I am also thinking seriously about aquiring a dog, not sure yet if it will be a puppy, or an older dog. I am wanting a lab or golden retriever also!!! Harry sure is a heart stealer hey? :)

Congratulations Pam and Gra. :D
