Do you give your pet/s time outs when they are 'naughty'? If so, what do you think works best?

I am not very good at disciplining my cat but he is getting mixed messages because I often 'let things go' whereas OH hits the roof when Ash does something in his opinion that he shouldn't ie jumping on table tops. Probably the most annoying thing that I can't get Ash to stop doing is drinking out of the bath. Its just so :eww: We usually put him in his carrier or bedroom.

We don't do Time Out, we say "No!" firmly - only if we catch them in the act - and remove them from whatever it is they are doing. They are pretty good, and we're also fairly relaxed about where they can go so really the only 'naughty' thing they do is scratch the carpet or get in the cot/pram and they KNOW they're doing the wrong thing because they look up with flattened ears when they realise they've been caught. They aren't naughty very often, though.

The only time-out I give my cats is to put them outside when they are being naughty and that's usually when they are just fighting with one another. Just recently I've noticed that my youngest cat, Elly, seems to be pushing her weight around a bit and can be a bit of a bully, so I'm trying to keep an eye on her.

Something that I do find funny is that each morning when I come downstairs, Elly is standing there looking half asleep and I know she has been sleeping on the lounge, but she must jump off the minute she hears me coming...lol Funny thing is, is that I don't mind her being on the lounge, cause she always sits in the same spot and it's easy enough to vacuum up the little bit of hair she leaves behind.
