With summer coming, my boys always have hats on and during the final term of school they have to wear them as well otherwise they are not allowed to play in the sun.
I wear one when we go to the cricket, but that is pretty much it - mostly it's just a cap.
Who here wears a hat? and what kind do you wear?

I've always worn a hat 'cause I think kids learn by example...Summer refuses to now and Gemma will wear one when I make her...but the little ones wear hats outside.
I wear a bucket hat...it's my mowing hat and walking hat and beach hat and just the hat I wear to get my hair off my neck...it's a man's but I like it...looks stupid but who cares if I dont! :hehe:

I don't wear a hat, but last year working outside with the flowers, my bosses wife came over with this big ugly straw thing covered in bows and ribbons and made me wear it , :O  :faint: So I may have to get myself one this year , something a little less flamboyant :hehe:
Telori what is a bucket hat :hehe:

LMAO LMAO Teena just revealed another aussie icon "bucket hats"LMAO LMAO .
I have a very small head, the only hats I can wear are the adjustable caps, and even then I have to tighten it all the way. I am naughty though, I only wear a hat if I know I won't need to take it off with no access to water to fix my hair. I suffer hat head to the extreme, my daughter even makes me fix my hair if I take a hat off:hehe: :hehe:

We have different events here in Sharon where we dress in period garb. One is Victorian Christmas & the other is Homesteaders Day. That was today. I started a thread about it. Check it out.

Occasionally I wear a baseball cap, when I go to the river, a gilligan type hat. No fancy hats though. I just dont have the look for them.

A bucket hat is a hat that hangs (sort of) on your head...they were mainly used for fishing or cricket I think...and they cover the ears and neck without being those huge wide brim things that fly off...

I don't wear hats often but I collect them and have them on my walls. Sounds crazy but it gives my space a very feminine touch.

teena,
I haven't gotten that technology advanced. I am new to this area. I can describe the one I got yesterday that I now have in my den.
It is straw with white lace and dried flowers. The back has a gorgeous peachy bow. I've been asked for pics out here so I guess I need to learn.
I have others if interested.

Gabby, I only started posting pictures right around July of this year. It's really easy once you learn. This coming from a women that used a computer for the first time 3 years ago.
Your hat sounds lovely. How many do you have?

I wear one in the sun ... and sunscreen. I am a bit of a sun-safe stickler. At the moment I have a horrible ugly bucket hat I bought while we were overseas, but it does the job. I always make sure Hugo has a hat on outside, he has really pale skin and I don't want him to burn (the 1 in 3 people developing melanomas in Australia statistic scares me).

I wear hats all winter but in the summer I like wide-brimmed hats. They suit my face but the nice ones are so expensive!
I also wear a lot of visors for sports. I prefer them to baseball caps.

no, i never like the way they look on me!
I always wear a hat & so do my kids & hubby. I had a level 4 melanoma removed when I was 21 & they told me if I had had it done when I did I would have been facing a mastectomy within 12months. Ever since I was about 12 I have been going to the skin specialist to have a check over as I have a huge number of large abnormal moles. I was once used as my Dr's Thesis with photos & everything & they used them in a huge big medical discussion eons ago when ppl started to realize you shouldn't lay around baking in the sun. At one stage I was having 2 moles removed every 3 months! So to those ppl who say hats don't suit me or I don't look good in one, I ask you do you think skin cancer will suit you & do you think you will look good in the scars when you have to have bits cut off or lasered off?????

I usually wear a hat when in the sun tho I try to stay undercover. My kids always wear hats ....at school its "no hat-no play" and they wear a hat at soccer because we are there all day and even in winter they will get burnt.

Here's a picture for all the people who don't know what a bucket hat is

I think in America you would probably refer to it as a fishing hat.
I wear one all the time and so does everyone in the family. May die of lung cancer but not gonna die of skin cancer.:P
Cheers
Debby
I don't wear them very often. The only time is when I know I am going to be in the sun for a prolonged period of time.
Other than that, the only other times I wore a hat, was at my son's cricket games on weekends. But that was a while ago now.
They were usually either a cap or a straw wide brimmed hat.

I have a number of hats and I'm ashamed to say I only wear one when I'm going to be in the sun for a prolonged time.
On the boat I always wore a visor type as it helped shade the eyes from the glare.
It is an Education Dept. policy that Primary school children have to wear hats ..."No hat, no play". Unfortunately this isn't followed through in High School.
My son tends to follow my example and only wears a hat if he will be outside all day.........or if it makes his total look ultra cool.

kids wear one... I dont.. can never find any I like
I have a huge collection of winter and summer hats - I am forever buying them and so many dont get worn. But for days out in the sun - I always wear one - I had several skin cancers removed from my neck when I was a teenager and I dont intend ever being a "sun bronzed aussie" again.

I try to wear a hat when I remember but nearly always use a moisturiser with sunscreen built in . I bought a super cute hat last Sunday for 6 month old DD. I was really excited that she didn't try to pull it off (like she does her sunnies) I want to get her used to wearing a hat whenever she go's outside as both OH and I have fair complexions. My OH wears a hat everytime he go's out in the sun.

I wear a cap, but have long hair to cover my neck, and the way it sits, it covers my ears as well. I'm not taking any chances!
