I was taking a look at my very first yahoo profile tonight. It has the date I joined on it, and I know that I signed up the very first night we got the computer, was the only site I knew of  16th Sept 1999.

There was no real reason for needing one, I just had to have one. And we rushed off to Dick Smiths late one afternoon to buy one.

Some days I wish we'd have stayed at home :P

How long have you been online, and what were your reasons for getting online?

We got our first computer in April 99 and went online about 3 months later our main reason was for the kids for school projects- don't know how we survived without it LMAO

I wasn't officially online til 2000 as I didn't have my own computer until then. Was using internet before that at school and such but I needed my own computer to get online at uni because the libraries were always full up and you could never get on! I also have a yahoo profile I think I made in 99... I used to love chatting and got hooked while I was at highschool LOL.

About 5 years ago. I must say it was a godsend while Zoe was little, without the mums group I joined online i would be in an asylum by now!!! I'm a bit like you though, sometimes i think it would have been better if we didn't....hehehehe then again i wrote a lot of stuff for Zoe's website that when I read it now I can't even remember so for that alone it's been worth it!! ;)

First year at uni, 1996 - it was fairly basic stuff, our Statistics lecturer was a lazy man who made us all set up an email account and correspond with him that way, instead of actually teaching us face to face. I didn't go so well at statistics, but I learn a lot about the internet, lol! Oh wow, how scary is it that I've been online for almost a DECADE???

(As an aside, it amazes me that lots of people don't 'understand' what you can do with the internet - when I was working, people used to think I was some kind of computer genius because I could find the answer to most questions ... Thank you Google!)

My daughter arrived home with a computor for me she had built. She showed me how to use it and that was around 2000 I think.

Probably about 12 years ago. Not a big user then. Only got into it about 8 years ago and I used to share a computer with Trev. Then we got big time and got a computer each! Woo hoo

I actually connected to the internet the Saturday that Michael Hutchence died. I remember it being all over the news, and I was chucking an absolute tanty because I couldn't figure out how to get the stupid internet working.

It was only on the following Monday when I read the instructions that I discovered you actually had to hook up via Trumpet Winsock before your browser would work.

The first thing I searched for was "clarinet"...I have no idea why. The next was "Harrogate" which is my hometown.

In the early days I thought the internet was full of weirdos & I wouldn't have considered chatting to anybody online. I used to just look stuff up, buy books from Amazon & send e-mails. I first started chatting back in 1999.

Leigh: I remember the early days of getting to know you. You still had your horse then, although you weren't riding. I think Emily was about 18 months old.

I just asked my Son. He says it was either 96 or 97! Hard to believe I have had the internet for so long!!

Why did I get it on? Initially it was for doing "Family History" research, and for research for the boys for school. When did I first join a forum? Probably '97. It was a forum for "Ex-Pats" and I am still a member!! ;-) (Forums are my only form of "chatting" I do.)
