Yesterday my washing machine blew up..I had decided previously that when it did finally go to the 'big washing machine graveyard in the sky' that I would purchase a twin tub machine next time as they are great for saving water and as we will be on tanks at our new house, it all made sense to me. I rang around different shops getting prices, one young man informed me that I didn't want one of those old things, 'they are so old fashioned' I guess it goes without saying that I didn't buy from him. I got a lovely NEC machine and haggled a great price that included delivery out here to the back of beyond.
I have been busy testing it out. Got me to thinking about how others might wash...do you soak things before washing....are you a dilegent seperator of whites and colors..or not....do you use powder or liquid? I am a liquid kinda girl here.
Tell us about you ???
Hi Patricia,
I separate everything. Power girl here, and rarely soak as our clothes don't get very dirty.

I must be old fashion too Patricia as Ive got a twin tub also. I get my washing out on the line so much faster than my next door neigbour, she seems to wash all day with her automatic. Saves water and soap powder and I think my machine washes much better. Maybe thats because I separate cloths. I see a lot who just throw every thing into one wash.
I no longer have a twin tub, but did for many years. I too found it quicker, and spun the washing much dryer than an automatic, which meant it dried quicker too. I used to save on water, powder and time!!
Now, I have a big automatic. I still seperate whites from colours, but find I no longer need to soak, like I used to when the boys were young.
I use powder, and softner. :)

We separate colours and whites, and lots of Hugo's clothes need soaking since starting solids. We use liquid, I find I am not diligent enough with dissolving the powder so we end up with those crusty white marks on dark clothes. Also, most powders seem to give DH (sensitive skin) a rash.
We just have a normal washing machine but my dream is a front loader.
Why do you like twin tubs? (I've never thought about getting one). And what is the general price range?

I am fairly slack when it comes to washing. It's pretty much all in, except for towels.
I use a powder, never tried a liquid. But with the way I use fabric softner, that is probably a good thing.
What is a twin tub? I have never taken the time to work out what it is that they actually do??

we have a front loader and i wouldn't buy anything else now. It saves on water, i hardly ever seperate colors from whites, and it depills (sp?) over times. the best thing we ever bought!!!!
OMG, I just remembered something I did as a child...
I loved to put my teeth (as in bite) on the rubber surround of my mums twin tub when it was spin drying! What a buzz! LMAO
Ummm whats a twin tub??? :dk:
i dont really seperate the colours of course i do if the ideas are new i am also i powder and liquid girl i change alot and i got to use the softner:D
Here you go :)Twin Tub (http://www.nec.com.au/products_detail.aspx?view=202)
Basically, as it describes ..twin tubs. One tub/side to wash in.. the other to do the rinse/spin. You have to physically put the washed clothes when finished into the rinse/spin tub. PITA if you are busy and don't notice it's finished washing. Fully automatic washing machines for me thanks! I had one when I first moved out of home 30 years ago LOL No thanks.

I had a twin tub years ago and I couldn't wait to get rid of it. We now have a front loader as it uses less water than anything and probably less than a twin tub and a lot less work.

I have nightmares about twin tubs... Mainly because my nana had one and when she put the clothes in the spinner she reused the water that was used in washing??? I don't understand as this water is dirty!!! I know it is recyling but SHEESH. Oh well those were the days lol. It didn't seem very quick to me maybe because she used to wash and spin like 3 times LOL.
