Miss 9 has been getting teased, but it's not at the point where I think it is a bullying issue, but I'm not sure exactly where that line is.

Today she wanted to put make up on for school each morning. I thought instantly that maybe she's been watching too much TV where they have teens who apply make up before school. But after talking to her more about it, it turns out she wants to cover her skin colour because it's the cause of teasing. The school she's at has a very high Indigenous population, roughly 70% of the students are Indigenous. Miss 9 is a blonde haired, blue eyed white kid. She's been excluded from games and told "whities can't play" and kids have said for her to stay away from them because they don't want a stinky white kid messing up their game. Other white kids who have darker complexions, dark hair, etc are sometimes included, but the she is just too fair skin/haired. She also wanted to dye her hair black to fit in better.

It's become quite an issue. In the Learning Centre (Special Ed Unit) it's very different to when she's in the Mainstream classroom, and has affected the amount of time she spends in the Mainstream classroom and the amount of time she spends playing in lunch breaks. She's taken to sitting in the eating area for the entire break instead of going to play after the eating time is over, and she's been so unsettled in the classroom that she's been taken back to the Learning Centre, which interrupts our Inclusion Support time.

But because it's just teasing, name calling and so on, I'm not sure if it's enough of an issue to take it further and call it bullying.

As you can imagine,Tara is super excited, especially after the day she had yesterday with that dead beat ex, she is on a high right now so I hope nothing drops to spoil it for her, I cannot believe after the hell she has been through in the last 12 months that she kept on working with the App but she has & she can be proud of herself :)
