Re: Buy 1 cloth menstrual pad and get another for $1.00
Alright I have questions, probably the worlds dumbest questions because I suck at these girl things.
1) Do you have to wash them in any special solution?
2) If they're waterproof, I don't get it.
3) Do you re-use them? Or do you throw them away?
4) How do they 'do up' - the ones with wings that is...

After working at Kimberly Clark I have enough toilet paper, paper towels and tampons to probably last me for the next 10 years.

Re: Buy 1 cloth menstrual pad and get another for $1.00
LOL at some of the comments.....am i truly the only women here that uses cloth menstrual pads

My website does have a few questions answered but I have cut and pasted from another discussion on this forum where I answered most questions like these...
As a cloth pad maker and user myself I have to go back to the days when I first discovered this alternative to plastic pads...............I was very skeptical and my first thought was eeewww why would i want to get any closer to my period than i already was but then on a whim i decided to buy a few liners just to see what it would be like. I started using them at the end of my period and only at night until I got brave enough to use them on my regular flow days and wow i was surprised at how comfortable they were, I found that the odor was less, I had no more itching or redness and generally my period began to be something I looked forward to.....sometimes the prettiest things I wear each month are my cloth pads and its nice to choose from playful prints, different colors.....you can really suit your mood
Washing them was no harder than throwing them in the machine and after all the handling and folding up and putting in the bin you do with disposables it became an easier option.
Another attractive idea of cloth pads is the saving of money and believe me it really adds up over time and the relief of knowing you never have to make that late night dash to the store, lol
From an environment perspective it really is the best option.....if you think of how many disposables we go thru each period at the end of a year it can add up to an amazing amount and where are all those used blood filled pads sitting???? In a landfill somewhere....hmm now thats pretty gross if you ask me
My cloth pads are held in place with wings that use plastic snaps to hold them in place.....Through years of use I have never had a problem with the pads moving in your underwear and find the wings are great for those who tend to leak off the sides.
The absorbency varies with each pad style.....ie liners have one layer of hemp/bamboo fleece whereas regular pads have two layers.
Hemp/Bamboo fleece is both very absorbent and also anti-bacterial. The moisture is drawn into the center of the pad just like a disposable and many ladies find that compared to disposables they are better at staying dry and comfortable.
My regular W's feature the added protection of a layer of PUL, this fabric is completely waterproof and breathable so no more worries of leaking.
Washing.......with the great washing machines of today gone is the days of scrubbing by hand and other yucky methods.
I recommend that after use pads are soaked in a bucket of cold water....this reduces staining but isnt always necessary and then you just chuck them in the wash with your other loads......simple as that! They can be dried in a dryer although sunlight is a great method of bleaching out any stains and making them fresh as a daisy.
I hope this helps with your questions....any others feel free to ask
Warmly

Re: Buy 1 cloth menstrual pad and get another for $1.00
That is nice of you to explain this Kristie.

I can see why there is some apprehension from the girls as it would be a different experience?
I myself dont have to worry about getting my periods any more as all my girly bits have gone
but on my heavy days it would be nothing for me to go through a whole packet of pads?
Its hard to imagine that your pads would have the absorption but you have explained it well so good luck with it all!
I hope some of the girls try them I would love to see some feedback?
