Re: Beautiful Kate
Haven't seen it I'm usually up with the movies haven't heard of this one.
TO KNOW SOMEONE HERE OR THERE WITH WHOM YOU FEEL THERE IS AN UNDERSTANDING IN SPITE OF DISTANCES OR THOUGHTS UNEXPRESSED----THAT CAN MAKE OF THIS EARTH A GARDEN.

Re: Beautiful Kate
Yep Kay saw it last year at a premiere in Sydney - yes your right very disturbing theme but don't you think the characters are very well played...has a fantastic cast and Brian Brown is her usual brilliant self. Rachel Ward directed this. I actually got to hear them both speak, I also have a the book if you would like to borrow it?
If you thought this was disturbing you should watched "Blessed" another Aussie flick with four amazing talented Australian actresses but again a very harrowing and disturbing topic/subject.
I am a big supporter of Aussie flicks - saw Bran Nue Dae the other day - very clever and I have to say I was impressed with both Jessica and Miss Higgins...both can act."Assumptions are the tools of fools and the bedfellows of dreamers. If you want to know something just ask..."

Re: Beautiful Kate
I think that it was well cast yes....and that was probably what was most disturbing in that you could believe that it was real. I know that's the idea behind a good movie but for me I could have done with it being a little less believable. I didn't really know what the movie was about....have to admit I wouldn't have gotten it out on DVD if I had known.

Re: Beautiful Kate
That is the part I loved about it - you won't like Blessed then, it is not about the same topic but it is about kids running away and living on the streets and this young girl gets her period and is walking around some of the movie with this mark on the back of her dress, her poor brother has to steal some pads for her and even then she doesn't know how to use them...they also end up sleeping in one of those St Vinnies clothing bins and they have a candle and then the next scene you see there burnt bodies at the morgue and there heavilly pregnant mother has to go and identify her children...
The girl that plays Kate is also in this movie...there are 4 different stories, the first half is from the kids perspective and the second from the mothers..."Assumptions are the tools of fools and the bedfellows of dreamers. If you want to know something just ask..."

Re: Beautiful Kate
I am also (or was) a supporter of Aussie films....Bran Nue Dae looks good from the Promos.....what is "Beautiful Kate" about, should I add it to my list of must rent this year?
I am beautiful inside and out so I should love myself unconditionally.
Weather it be or weather it not Heather complains 'cause it's far from hot

No I don't think it would be your cup of tea Heather.
Have you seen Charlie and Boots?
I also don't think the average Aussie would get Samson and Delilah.Last edited by Alexa; 23-01-2010 at 09:33 AM.

Re: Beautiful Kate
Was tempted to get it....but I am not a Paul Hogan fan....it's like the Adam Sandler or Jim Carey movies, not a fan of either so tend to steer clear of their movies.

Love Australian movies... and the best one of all time... Getting Square. If you havn't seen it go and get it, it's a comedy but it is brilliant. You are just crying you are laughing so hard. David Whenam is a phenomanal actor!

Re: Beautiful Kate
Charlie and Boots was a good laugh, I really enjoyed it and it was on that basis that I got Beautiful Kate out.
Beautiful Kate is about a young man who goes back to his childhood home because his father is dying. There's a lot of family conflict around his dead sister and the circumstances of her death and what lead up to it. If I say any more than that it will kind of give the plot away.
