Would you?
Regardless of whether you agree with the shops being opened or not on Anzac Day.. would you go there?
I would.

Re: Would you?
NO I wouldn't. I think everything should be closed on Christmas Day. Boxing Day Good Friday and Anzac Day morning.

Re: Would you?
Probably. I have had to work all the public holidays Anzac Day, Christmas etc in the past so fairs fair.
I understand the meaning of the day and it dosn't mean I don't take time out to remember but it annoys me that when I have to work and so do so many other people so why can we not stop at the shop on our way to work to grab breakfast or even fuel.

Re: Would you?
So staying at home watching tv or wasting time online is showing more dignity to the fallen than going to the shops for a look around?
Not everyone goes to Anzac Day parades or memorial services.... some of us just sit at home and wait for something to open so we have something to do.
edited to say: I AM thankful to all the men and women who protect our country both past and present but I don't see how getting up before dawn and dragging my son to a dreary (yes! they are dreary!!) memorial service makes me any less thankful for their actions.

Re: Would you?
its not normally a time waster for me but it is time that i always spend with my family each year doing something together in the afternoon.
i dont mind what others do its their choice i like to set that example for my DD...but thats my expamle that may not be others.
i am a big supporter of the local RSL and my DD used to go in the local marches when she was younger.Melinda

Re: Would you?
Isn't it on a Sunday this year?
I hate the shops at the best of times, I tend to go to the beach on a Sunday morning for a walk/swim and to read the papers."Assumptions are the tools of fools and the bedfellows of dreamers. If you want to know something just ask..."

Re: Would you?
I avoid the shops on Public Holidays like the plague.
I can understand those that feel that opening commercial venuesdoesn't dignify the meaning of the day.
Would be nice if on Anzac Day there was a minute's silence in the centres.I am beautiful inside and out so I should love myself unconditionally.

Re: Would you?
I wouldn't go shopping just for the sake of wandering around the centre, but if the shops were open and I needed something I would go. In recent years we have worked from about 11am on Anzac Day and it would have been handy to be able to buy the bread before midday. We also go to the local Anzac Day Service.
