Re: Calling all Mums, Nurses, people that know about Babies and well... everyone!
Yes, Cherie. I think Maliss was asking for some general clarification without knowing if her friend's baby is ok or not.
Maliss, can you call her husband again and ask him if there's anything you can help with at all ... it might give you some idea of where things are at without asking (painful) questions.

I completely abased myself via text msg - she responded.
Baby is still in NICU & she's off to Ronald McDonald House to be closer to the baby.
My friend said that she's completely exhausted & doesn't have much energy for anything other than being with her baby.
I asked for a prognosis but didn't get a return SMS.
all is good.

I think she'll be completely invested in being with her baby for the next xx weeks/months. Hope they are all ok xx
It's hard to know how to help in these situations. She knows you're there, that's really all you can do now I think.
(I would lean towards sending a "congratulations on the arrival of" card/gift ... even though it's not the arrival she would have been hoping for, it's probably still important that people acknowledge baby's arrival in the usual way. If the worst does happen, God forbid, the gifts will be the memories she can hold onto.).

I think you can't beat flowers and a nice card to let them know you're thinking of them.
With babies that small, it's really hour by hour. It's terribly emotional for the Mum and Dad, and it's scary in there. The babies are so small and fragile and the tubes and things seem huge.
Things change in NICU so fast. The staff are usually great though, and they explain every little step.
I hope it turns out great for your friend. My twins were born full term but were just over 5lb so they spend some time inthe NICU.Last edited by Cackle; 04-03-2010 at 08:22 PM.
