THIS IS NAOMI!!!
Not Di.
My answer is pretty similar to Rach. I followed the WHO guidelines at the time so fed for 12 months and then decided to keep going and see how the kids went. Hugo self weaned at about 14/15 months and I weaned Sophie at the same age due to some other things going on at the time (felt a bit guilty about it but she coped well). I was lucky though, I didn't have any problems breast feeding after the first couple of weeks.

Re: Those who breast fed...
I think that anyone that is still breast feeding a child at 9yrs of age has other issues going on like separation anxiety, need issues or something along those lines. It is definetly for the benefit of the mother only as a child that age is getting all his nutritional needs through normal food if he is eating properly. After so long of feeding there is nothing in the mother's milk that can protect the child from childhood illness.
I had problems trying to breastfeed and so my son went on the bottle and he is the healthiest kid I have ever known and never ever missed one day of school through illness growing up where a friend of mine who breastfed at the same time had a child that caught everything going around so go figure !!
No offence Mes but that is just *SICK*

I remember that H. I had thought it was Junie Morosi.... Duh, so glad I didn't bring it up. LOL
I breast fed all 5 of our kids from between 9 months to just over 2 years for my youngest. I think I fed him longer as I knew he was going to be my last baby. :-( My eldest DD breast fed her baby for about 12 months and my other DD flatly refused to breastfeed at all. I was disappointed as I'm a firm believer in human milk for human babies - but I understand it's an individual choice and to each their own.
For me, 2 years would definitely be long enough.Last edited by July; 07-03-2010 at 09:36 PM.

No offence taken frannie cos I agree with what you said, and she is not my friend but a friend of a friend...
I personally think you should at least breast feed your child for the minimum amount of time, even if that is the first few weeks, but again this is a personal choice, I think BF rocks.
