Sometimes you can be "in" a family yet not feel a part of it.

Re: 'family'
HA...
I think BF and I are part of a family but you ask any of his work college's when it is time to pick who is on call over christmas and they turn to him and say "We all decided you are on call (again for the 4th F*^KING year running) because You Don't Have Family.'
I'm sorry, what is his mum, his dad, his brother, me, his grandfather, my parents, my sisters. They are family. We don't have to breed to have people who love us.
Makes me mad.

I think the Christmas rostering sucks.......to be fair to all, maybe names should be drawn out of a hat.

Re: 'family'
wether you like it or not

I agree with cherie about what a social definition of a family is.
As far as work places go I think its a cop out to say you can work because you have no family. It shouldnt matter if you have kids or are single. At my work we are not open chrissy day or good friday but are for all the other holidays. We are asked to volunteer to work the holiday then if not enough volunteers can be faound you are rostered based on how may holidays you have worked previously and when the last one was etc.

loved this one, I mean life was nasty and ppl had their little ways of coping and getting through those hurrendous times, power to them
