    Generic Products

I buy some of them - things like margarine, cheese slices, sugar, bread; find them as good as branded products.

Tinned things like baked beans not so good - although tins of tomato paste, creamed corn etc fine for cooking.

Cleaning products and toiletries, I dont buy home brands but then I dont buy the top of the range brand either - something in the middle.

What do you all think ??

Mostly buy good brands but I'm open to generic I think it's trial and error I try some of the home brands every now and then just to see what they are like.

We have a saying in Afrikaans....'goed koop is deur koop' - direct translation "cheap is expensive" invariably i find the no-name brands gross in most instances.

    Re: Generic Products

I made some lemon meringue cupcakes yesterday and used an 85c homebrand vanilla cake mix and it was really good. Everyone was surprised when I told them. I generally don't use generic stuff but as I had never made lemon meringue cupcakes before I thought it was best to trial them with cheap stuff but I think I will use it again!
