Leaving the dogs out in the rain?
So, we finally Goku-proofed our fence so he is officially a prisonor in the backyard (until he figures out how to dig under).
They are still inside with us alot but I have been leaving them out when we are at work. Today it is pouring with rain and Bella hopped into the kennel but Goku just refuses to get in. When i got home, he was sitting at the sliding door, sopping wet and shaking
I feel really sorry for him.
Is it too mean to leave him out. Dh rekons if he is cold enough then he will get in the kennel, but he hasnt been in since we first got him and he is very stubborn.
I know, I know - it is my fault that he has been in so long and he would much rather hop into a bed with the electric blanket on

Re: Leaving the dogs out in the rain?
It is weird how some dogs just wont go into a kennel no matter how hard you try to get them in there, does he have any other shelter from the weather ? if not i would put up a smallish shelter where he can get & especially with the heat of Summer comming on
I only have indoor dogs & would never think of putting mine out because like you i just couldn't bare the guilty feeling
but men are a little different to us about how they think

Re: Leaving the dogs out in the rain?
There really isnt much shelter outside at all, so we may have to put something up. He used to always get in the kennel, while our house was getting built we were staying with my parents and he was out in his kennel everynight. No way would I put them outside at night time though, they are much safer in my bed

Re: Leaving the dogs out in the rain?
You can get those little tent marque thingies - that would be alright until you can get something more permanent.

Re: Leaving the dogs out in the rain?
If you don't have two kennels, I'd suggest getting another one. Some dogs just don't like to snuggle together and regardless of whether you think the kennel is big enough for two, he may not want to go in there if he has to share. He doesn't seem to like sharing his people so why should a kennel be any different? I'd get a temporary outdoor shelter erected but ideally also another kennel. A shelter will keep the sun and rain off but it won't do much to protect against the wind.
Good luck.
