Question stinky top- suggest a cure.

I have this lovely black lycra type synthetic material top that I can't get a distinct doggy odour out from. I had washed it with other tops and by itself; yet still the smell continues.
I thought about washing it in vinegar but because its black I don't want to damage the colour.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Have you tried soaking it for at least 12 hours with Borax or Baking Soda. I'm not sure of exact amounts, I just threw the powder in and swirled it around......used to work on perspiration odour on the ex's shirts.....then wash as normal.

    Neither will fade the colour.

I had a few stinky tops courtesy of sweaty bike riding and I tried a lot of things (most unusually, a mix of water and mouth wash as a pre-wash spray). Nothing really worked but that was more the ingrained sweaty smell, I think doggy smell should be easier to remove (unless the dog has actually been wearing the shirt while bike riding?!). I think synthetic fabrics are quite colour fast in general aren't they? So hopefully any soaker wouldn't affect the colour. I never had any colour damage using vinegar (just white vinegar) but I also didn't find it particularly useful in getting rid of odours.
