    Books for Review

Just received our first bunch of books for review. I have 5 copies of each. So just let me know which ones you would like..you can take one of each if you like. But must have a review on each one you take. It doesn't need to be huge. They will be included in one post..so just a paragraph or 2 is all that is needed.

With Father's Day coming up, most are guy related ones. So may not be for everyone. You can read them yourself, or maybe a MIYL (man in your life) can read it for you.

    The books are.....

Servo (Jim Sonter) - The perfect nostalgic book for Father's Day 2011.
The first service stations appeared in Australia in the 1910s and increased dramatically in number over the country post World War II when motor vehicle production boomed. They popped up in little country towns to enable the motorist to travel further abroad. Back then they were not branded as they are now, each had its own style, its own flair and stocked more than one brand of fuel.
This collection of photographs started on a holiday in 1982 when Jim Sonter saw the 1930s art deco servo, Bingara Motors, in NSW and snapped off a shot on his camera. What started as a one-off soon became an obsession and Jim now has over 1000 photos of service stations spanning six decades of Australian history.

Diagnosis Male (Troy Harvey) - From full-time hypochondriac and first-time author Troy Harvey comes this collection of stories about one of the great traumas in a man’s life - going to the doctor’s. Intensely funny (and painfully true), Troy’s encounters with health professionals of all persuasions rarely go according to plan...

Rocky Elsom Leader of the Wallabies (Bret Harris) ROCKY: LEADER OF THE WALLABIES is an insightful and revealing look into the rugby union career of one of Australia's greatest Wallabies, Rocky Elsom.
"Rocky Elsom is a rugby player of the old school. No frills, lots of spills, and with a will to win that would kill a brown dog. He is an Australian original who is also a hugely admired figure in international rugby." - Peter Fitzsimons
“He is prepared to stand up against the tide and inspire others to do the same” Robbie Deans

Air Force (Ian McPhedran) - A revealing look at the Royal Australian Air Force in war and peace since the East Timor crisis in 1999, from bombing raids over Bagdad and logistic support in Afghanistan, to surveillance, reconnaissance and humanitarian missions all over the world.

I also have this one that isn't a blokey one...

    THE CASUALS - Sally Breen

'Three things happened at the dawn of the 1990s that would change everything about how we had lived before. We graduated high school, Microsoft shipped Windows 3.0 and America started the Gulf War. We became adults in the 1990s. The start of the world gone mega. Gone global. Gone mad. We became The Casuals and this is our story.'
The Casuals is the story of the life and times of one young woman's journey through the last two decades of the 20th century; from her pop-fuelled adolescence in the 1980s to a full-blown grunge ride in the 1990s. Sally Breen takes up the mantle of her generation, the casuals, and gives them voice. A charged and heady exploration of sex, drugs and pop culture, The Casuals is also a meditation on loss, death and grief, as the author struggles to reconcile her place in a chaotic world after the loss of her father.

Sydney-born in 1974, Brisbane grown and now Gold Coast resident and lecturer in Writing & Publishing at Griffith University (where she also gained her doctorate), Sally Breen has worked in the university sector in creative writing and the broader creative arts community for over ten years. She was associate editor of the Griffith REVIEW from 2006 to 2008, and her fiction and non-fiction work have appeared in a variety of publications and collections, including The Australian, The Age, the Courier Mail, Wet Ink, Best Stories Under the Sun, Griffith REVIEW, Travellers Tales, Media International Australia, Philament and Best Australian Stories.

So if any take your fancy let me know which ones you want below. First 5 in for each will get them. You will need to pm or email me your address Leigh at allforwomen.com.au and I will get them posted out. You need to be a current active member.

Wouldn't mind Diagnosis Male....sounds very funny, but honestly don't think I could read two books at the moment.
