Re: 60s fashion for boys
P&C woes......nothing worse when they are run by like minded fanatics, which is often the case because so few parents these days can afford the time to attend let alone stand for office. And it's a sad state of affairs that the schools have to run these fund raisers to obtain equipment for the students because of the inequality of Govt. funding.

Do you think he has a problem?I'm struggling a bit at the moment because the school reports and teacher interviews just seem to be about "positive feedback" which is nice and good, but I would also like some actual useful feedback on areas I can be helping him improve or activities I can do to reinforce his learning.I am beautiful inside and out so I should love myself unconditionally.

No I don't think he has a problem. But I am an aware parent who wants to take an active part in her child's life, including his education. I'd like to be able to do stuff at home that consolidates his learning at school. I'm sure many people are happy to leave it up to the school to be responsible for teaching their child everything from reading and maths to manners and ethics but frankly I prefer to have more input than that.
Being 'nice' is all well and good, but forgive me for actually wanting to get an idea of what he's learning at school.
I'm sure that makes me a helicopter parent or something that is equally disdained but I don't really care. At least I take an interest in my child's life.

Have you asked his Teacher if there is any way you can expand on her lessons from home?

Re: 60s fashion for boys
Yes. She just said he's doing great and there's no need. I'm baffled as to why it is so difficult to get basic curriculum information. Even something like "we're doing fractions/narrative/local environment at the moment" or whatever, and I can work that into whatever we do at home, or out and about. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she's happy with how he's going. I'd just like to have a bit more feedback. (And I'm not always hassling her, this was in our designated half yearly parent teacher interview slot).
On the up side. I got some awesome purple flares from the local op shop this morning. They are seriously cool, so I hope he'll agree to wear them (he's totally conservative in his dress sense, so this will be a big move for him).
And I think part of the problem is, last year his teachers were always sharing bits and pieces with the parents about what was happening in the classroom so it was much easier to do things at home. I'm sure it's just different teaching styles as well as more separation as they get older. It's different.

Re: 60s fashion for boys
It's very hard sometimes.....a lot of teachers, while they may appreciate your obvious interest, can feel that one teaching style is best for the child. Actually I think that reasoning is a tad too precious.
Just plug away, does he get any homework that you can expand on quietly at home? I used to make games up for Sam, especially in Maths, that we could play in the car or wherever.
Purple flares...he is going to be a hit! Good on ya Mum
