Question Ipad question (MOC might know)

    Morning Ladies.

My DH has bought me an Ipad for Chrissy

Now, although I'm not allowed to open and play with it until Christmas Day, I would like to be organised and download everything I need beforehand.

What I mainly want it for, is to read my books, so what would be the app to download to purchase my books cheaply.

I have an Iphone, so I am thinking everything on that will just transfer over onto the Ipad, but I haven't got a book app.

If there is anything else you think I need, let me know

The new software comes with a bookshelf app but I think that's more for newspapers and magazines and stuff. Most of my ebooks are on ereader but it has becoming really awkward lately with all the geographic restrictions. My husband uses the kindle app on his phone (I don't know how cheap it is to buy books through it though). Stanza has some free books (but nothing contemporary. Mostly old stuff/literature stuff if you're into that).

iBook or Kindle apps are both free, and I think kobo has an iPad app now too? I assume if you have iBook you buy and download ebooks from iTunes and for the Kindle app you download from Amazon, kobo from kobo etc. so it ll depends on where you have an account set up. If you have an iPad you have to have an iTunes account set up by default so may be the easiest option? Not sure what is cheapest as I have only ever purchase ebooks for my Kindle ereader. Most stores will have 100s of free books to download to get you started anyway, all the classics are free due to them no longer having copyright. Maybe you can go to each store and browse before hand. All stores have a wish list type thing where you can put books you want to read on a list without purchasing so they can be easily found when you are ready. Have fun with your new iPad! I got one for Mothers day and love it!

Re: Ipad question (MOC might know)

Oh and it might be easier to wait to get the iPad before downloading apps as I have found the app store will automatically download for the given device. Yes all iPhone apps work on the iPad but they aren't...I can't think of the word lol...they aren't made to the right specifications so are tiny in the middle of the iPad screen, they stay the same size as the iPhone and you can zoom in but then they are a bit blurry. I don't use any iPhone apps on my iPad unless they are made specifically for both. So when you open your iPad and go into the app store to search for apps it will have two lists, one for iPad and one for iPhone/iPod. As I said the iPhone list ones will still work but not as good as the iPad ones iykwim. So don't pay for an app on your iPhone thinking it will work perfectly on iPad. the iPhone Kindle app is different than the iPad kindle app! I would just make a list of what you want and then wait until you have the iPad out of the box.
