iMac photo help! (MOC should know!)
So I have a new iMac after using windows for years and the one thing I loved about windows was when viewing photo albums, from the actual file folder, you could easily view thumbnails of what photos are in each albums, even enlarge the thumbnails to make it easier when looking for a particular photo. Is there an easy way of doing this with the iMac? I have 1000s of photos on an external drive, I don't want to upload all of them to iPhoto, in fact it says there isn't enough room for me to do that anyway! I don't really get how to use the iPhoto either, what a pain that I can't access the photos in it for web uploads either, I have to have the photo in a file folder for that. Why does my iMac want me to waste so much of my hard drive space by storing my photos in 2 places?? Can't get my head around it. Someone please help me organise my photos easily?

I have mine stored on an external drive and I also use photobucket. I don't know if that helps you or not!

CB, I'll get back to you after I've had another cuppa, not properly awake yet, can't be, as half your post zipped by me! lol
See you later unless of course, Moc helps you out beforehand

I use iPhoto. I have thousands of photos and have no problem storing them, and I'm using a macbook, no issues with memory.
It's been so long since I used anything else though, I'm not really sure how to compare.

Naomi, do you store them in iPhoto and in the pictures folder? Or in iPhoto and on an external source? I have a 500 gb hard drive in my iMac, do not sure why its saying it might not all fit? Mind you my photo collection is around 250 gb worth. Do you store videos there as well? How do you go about uploading from a web page as it directs to my photo folder and in that just says "iPhoto library" but I can't click on it to access individual photos?

Re: iMac photo help! (MOC should know!)
iPhoto and backed up on an external hard drive. I don't have many videos, just a few short ones from my phone but yes, they are there as well.
Do you mean downloading from a webpage? I don't often, but when I do I usually just save it to my desk top.
(Sorry if I misunderstood what you mean, it really has been so long since I used a non-mac that I can't remember how I used to do it but I'm happy to help if I can).

Re: iMac photo help! (MOC should know!)
No, I mean say if I am in photo bucket or Facebook and I want to upload a photo, it opens a browse your computer window and takes me to the picture folder on my iMac. It then shows up the iPhoto library icon but nothing more, it's just the icon. So how do I find the actual photos to upload? Where are they stored?

Re: iMac photo help! (MOC should know!)
Oh ok ... I upload to flickr directly from iPhoto, and to Facebook from my phone or from iPhoto.
I've never used photo bucket. But when I upload, it opens a 'browse' window and I can choose where I want to select the photo from.
