When can you put a flea collar on a kitten?
Yeah lol as it says. The collar says "for cats and kittens" but he looks too small yet.

Re: When can you put a flea collar on a kitten?
can you cut the collar to fit?
Myself I don't like the collars as the kitten can get caught and I don't think they're very effective. I'd go get some Frontline plus from the vet. A packet of it is expensive but most vets will sell you a vile at a time :-)

It will have the age on the back of the pack but I am pretty sure its not till at least 6 months? If he has fleas try a little bit of flea powder on him.

Re: When can you put a flea collar on a kitten?
I don't think they are good for under 6 months either, the collars are pretty toxic. I don't like flea collars here because when my daughter touches the cats she would touch the collar and get the poison on her hands and then her mouth! For that reason I prefer frontline or similar, you can get cheaper brands. We have used the tablets before as well. The only thing I do with the collars is cut them into pieces and put inside the vacuum bag to kill the fleas and eggs sucked up.

Well I know frontline can be used on a very young kitten. But yes check with your vet.

Re: When can you put a flea collar on a kitten?
The vet gave me Advantage, but the poor bubba is so tiny and the fleas look so big on him. Will call the vet tomorrow. My dog has Sentinel monthly heart worm preventer ehich is also an all wormer and flea comtraceptive, but frontline is effective if he has live omes. Advantage doesn't seem effective, but he isn't at the minimum weight for frontline yet. The flea collar has no age on it, just 'cats and kittens' and that it is waterproof and lasts for 5 months.

Re: When can you put a flea collar on a kitten?
Sprinkles got them from his doggy friend, then he gave them to Mango. Sprink
es no longer has them but I found more on Mango. I just put a heap of conditioner on him from the pet cafe and will comb them off him in the bath whete they will wash down the drain. He has his second shot tomorrow anf the vet said she will weigh him then and let me know what to use. Mango will be back with his foster mummy on sunday and Sprinkles will go to the kennel sunday too so if I get them treated and take them early I can bomb the house which gives it a week to clear before they come back.Vegetarian, nature loving, instinctive parenting working mother. Re: When can you put a flea collar on a kitten?
I've never found collars or powder to be any more effective than the spot-on solutions (and most of those will come in a small cat/kitten dosage). Maybe try washing him with a flea wash and then using the spot-on stuff. Agree that collars can be a choke hazard for little kittens. The conditioner should help as well, that's how they suggest treating nits on kids (almost the same?!) as it suffocates the parasites.
