Re: school zones
I wouldn't mind if they were *permanent* speed zones, it's that they make them operational only on school days during specific times, that to then continue this when there are no students (and probably no teachers either, in spite of it being a 'gazetted' school day) at the school is just ridiculous. No wonder people get confused. Either way, it needs to be consistent.

Re: school zones
I find it's really hard for those who dont have school aged children, seriously I would have no idea of when school holidays are or student free days etc and I can imagine this is the case for a large percentage of motorists. And becausse I don't live in a major city only 2 of our school zone areas have the flashing warning lights. The other 20 or 30 school zone areas have no flashing lights.

Re: school zones
i thunk if anyone got a fine over the laste few days , then they should appeal..as long as you dont have past speeding fines i would be surprised if they upheld it......

Re: school zones
IN SA, the school zones only operate on school days - either as indicated by flashing lights or a sign which says 25km when children present - so if no children present, ie is not a school day or is middle of day and they are all in class - then it is normal speed.
If you dont know when school holidays are - which many older people dont either - then you go by the flashing lights or the presence of children.
You are not expected to just know.

Re: school zones
QLD kids went back yesterday because we have adopted the national curriculum (grumble grumble lol) and have put all our pupil free days into the easter holidays, so all school zones were enforced, but we don't have it all day only a few hours in morning and arvo and not during holidays etc.

Re: school zones
Friday is a gazetted school day (even though most of the public schools have a pupil free day) so yes, they are in operation.
