The Book Boys
I live in a largish country town and there is one main shopping centre - couple of years ago an Angus and Robertson book store opened ,then closed, a private (as in not part of a chain) book shop opened, that closed after only about 6 months - now it has re-opened as The Book Boys.
I went in there to check it out today - has very cheap books - most paperbacks under $10, even larger ones which I expect to see at around $25.
They had the original prices and then the discount price - yes, I know this could just be a marketing ploy but saw some books with the original Dymocks sticker at double the selling price - so Im not sure if The Book Boys is like a seconds place for leftover books from large stores, like Dymocks?
Looks promising anyway.

Re: The Book Boys
Do they have recent releases? We have discount book sellers around, and they are cheap but don't stock new releases so I assume they buy excess stock or stock from places that go out of business. I think bookshops in particular have been hard hit by internet shopping ... websites like book depository sell for much cheaper and no postage, and it's not like clothes that people need to try on or anything - a book is a book. How can a physical store compete?

Re: The Book Boys
Didnt notice if the books were new releases or not - good point Naomi.
I wonder if they will order in books like Angus and Robertson used to (our country town A+R didnt carry all the stock a city store would) - maybe not.
Yes, book stores have been hard hit by internet ordering like Book Depository and also e-readers

Re: The Book Boys
I reckon they have just bought up old stock at an auction....nothing wrong with that, hope they can be successful, but someday book shops will be a thing of the past. Even I am looking on Ebay for a Kindle.

Re: The Book Boys
How much are they on ebay? I know they were selling them quite cheaply (I *think* around $129 new ... which seemed ok to me?) at Woolies before Christmas because I was vaguely tempted (didn't do it though).

Re: The Book Boys
Are these Kindles lighter to hold than a thick book?

Re: The Book Boys
Way lighter Jen - I dont have one and I still like my paper books (hence why I am interested in a real book shop
) - but they are about size of a paperback book but much thinner and lighter - about as heavy as an i phone or a DVD in a case.
