medical funds
I need to join a medical fund, as i'm not in one and I'm needing dental and chiropractic and glasses. I'm covered for general hospital, not private and for ambulance as hubby is a veteran but as hubby doesn't need medical cover, I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? I guess I'd be looking at cover for singles?

Re: medical funds
www.iselect.com.au is the comparison site we used. We are with NIB, mainly for tax reasons and being over 30. It's not great and not terrible. We rarely use it, to be honest.

Re: medical funds
The thing to remember with iselect though is does not compare every company. It is paid for buy health funds so it only recommends one that pay it a fee. Medibank Private and a few of the larger ones do not pay and so will not be recommended even if they are cheaper. That said, iselect is a good place to start and then i would ring medibank and bupa for comparisons. They all cost about the same but what you get for your money differs. Some include chiro in their basic packages and some only include it in the natural medicine packages. braces are always extra dental, but the extra may also include wisdom teeth, crowns etc in the extra where some will have it in basic (Can you tell i used to work for a health fund??). If you get confused by any of the terms let me know and i can try and explain them.

Re: medical funds
I am with Bupa....formerly HBA....to us the best thing about them is that our kids get free dental from certain Bupa preferred dentists. This is a big selling point for us......I have not gone on iselect fot ages but HBA never used to come up in their comparisons...so iselect is not an overall guide but I agree with Cayte..it is a good starting point. I can recommend BUPA, as we have never had a problem.
