Head lice. Are some people more prone to it than others?

My kids have never had head lice. I don't know why. Hugo's school is constantly sending home notes about it (that is, that there are kids with nits so everyone needs to do a head check etc). Apparently last week, the school photographer combed all the kids' hair with the same comb. Duh. Also, Sophia is sweaty and so scratches her head a lot so I've been checking paranoidly all week (much to their irritation). (I actually had to google images to see what I was looking for.)

So far so good. I'm thankful for that, but it seems weird that I don't particularly do anything to repel the lice but we've been very lucky so far.

    Now my head is itchy.

Yes, some get them constantly while others don't get them. I use a tea tree spray which keeps them away but other kids have them no matter what.

I suppose its like anything else - some people seem to have more natural immunity - eg I know I hardly ever get gastro, even when it is going around (lucky me)

But mosquitos! - they will leave everyone else alone and zoom in for me - I will come home from a BBQ or something and have bites all along my arms, while Ken remains untouched.

My kids did get head lice once or twice, thankfully only on a couple of rare occasions.

I had this sent to me in an email..

[Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo.

The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair,
and stimulates the growth of healthy hair.

Straight vodka gets rid of nits too.]

Yep Cherie, or 1 shot Vodka in 1/2 cup children's Listerine, cover in shower cap or glad wrap for 20 minutes then rinse. Works well!

I had nits as a child Mum was told to use Suleo sp shampoo & a nit comb, when she asked what she could do to prevent them coming back, she was told, nothing really Apparently lice prefer clean to dirty hair.

Never even knew what nits were as a child.

I really do believe that some people are immune to them. I had none with my oldest child but heaps with the second and although touch wood none with the third he has worms more times in his young life than I've had in my 40+ years, so he must be a worm kid . By the way I'm a mosquito magnet too, so I get eaten alive whilst others don't even notice that they are around, must have some sweet, sweet blood hey.LOL.
