Was reading about dropbox last night so will check it out...will trial a few of the freebie remote desktops still though...would really prefer to just access the desktop rather than change formats for 100's of my files and compromise formatting. I suppose if I cant find anything suitable I will just have to stop being lazy and sit in the cold office.

Try using TeamViewer remote software in order to remotely control your computer from iPad. Also, if you would also like to establish view only remote connection between iPad and computer, you may consider deploying on premise remote support appliance such as RHUB appliances.
