Roses suggestions?
My parents 50th (gold) wedding anniversary is in June ,we are having surprise get together long weekend in June - I want to get them a present but they are financially comfortable and dont need anything - always hard to know what to get them at best of times.
They're not really into ornamental things but they are into gardening - and they have some roses and a big garden.
Was wondering if any garden gurus out there know of a rose that would capture the occasion - something called GoldenSpecial or something like that.
Or whether I could get a rose of each of their names - I know some roses have peoples given names but not sure if any are masculine names - my parents names are Robert and Elizabeth.
Also how would I order such a rose - would I just ask my garden shop and they will get it in?
Or do you order from soemwhere specific?

Re: Roses suggestions?
I would ask at a good Nursery, they might be able to order them in for you

Re: Roses suggestions?
I am beautiful inside and out so I should love myself unconditionally.
Weather it be or weather it not Heather complains 'cause it's far from hot
Her disdain for the rain is catching on quickly To Mad Old Cow she can be quite prickly
Grab jumper, a scarf or even a dog.
That'll warm you up, you jolly great snob!!

Thank you Cherish

Heather, that's a lovely one. Good choice. I'd head to a nursery and ask can they get it on for you Ted.

Re: Roses suggestions?
I can't help with rose selection, but I love roses that smell...the old fashioned type.
Another nice idea...we did it for my dad's 80th....My sister, brother and I wrote 10 "precious memories with Dad" on little cards(nice little pieces of cardboard) and put them in a glass jar. The idea is that whenever they like they can go to the jar and pull one out and read it.......You could do one for them as a couple..."Precious moments with Mum and Dad".If you like you can visit me on http://happyasapiginmud.wordpress.com/

Re: Roses suggestions?
I do have some beautiful smelling Roses....but my favourite is the Yellow Banksia Climbing Rose. It has a lovely perfume and best of all no thorns.
Do they have a place for a climbing rose?
The White Banksia Rose is gorgeous as well.

Re: Roses suggestions?
Cherie, Im sure they could find room for a climbing rose ,they have a very big garden.
Happy as, what a lovely idea for your dad's 80th.
A portrait of all the kids and grandkids wouldn't work - partly because I want to give something just from us, not from all the kids, but also my sister wont have anything to do with rest of family( looong story) so she and her children would be absent from photo.
I do like Heather's suggestion of Golden Celebration, that seems to fit the theme perfectly, will look into getting 1 or 2 sent to me, thanks for web sites, just have to check out if they are suitable for SA conditions.
