Ted,
I am similar only don't use marg, it's only butter here. I keep most opened jars like olives, pickle onions, pickles, chutneys etc in the fridge. I do keep jam and cheese spreads in my fridge. I am a freak for buying new condiments, and sometimes come across them out of date in the pantry..then throw them out thinking why did I buy that..

Where ever you pick it up from in the Supermarket, is where it's stored when it's unused - once used it depends on the instruction on the container.

Some in pantry, some in fridge. A lot of open things in the pantry....lots of things are full of preservatives.

Re: Condiments.
I put all mine in the fridge. I had a bit of a tiff with the darling one one day because he puts all of his in the cupboard and I said but it says on the bottle to refrigerate once opened so they go in the fridge, don't know whether he just gave in or realised I was right.

Re: Condiments.
Crash test woman, I read once that it is not necesary to keep in fridge but manufacturers put that on the bottle as it is more 'in your face' when you have in fridge that at back of cupboard and therefore encourages you to use more.
Not sure if this is true - but anyway, umpteen years of keeping in pantry doesnt seem to have caused me any harm - I dont think it really matters either way.

Definitely. It's not out of date yet and it's not like it has fresh ingredients that will go off.
Best before date - would you use...
