    so is that race a charity race or do people just organise a charity of their own ?

    It's a proper race for atheletes. A lot of countrys use it ( amongst others ) to pick their contenders for the Olympics. But it is also a race for fun runners who run to raise money for their chosen charity.There are thousands of runners, who between them, raise over £40 million for charity.

    I think that there are too many charities.
