    Migrating to Australia - Help

    Hello everyone

Im not really sure if this is the right place to post my question. But I thought Ide try it out.

Me and my family have applied for immigration to Australia. And Im hoping that we get our acceptance soon (fingers crossed).
Now we wont actually be moving until 2 years or so, but we will be coming to visit and get an idea what we're in for.

I would like anyone's help in guiding me on some basics.
    1. Monthly expenses
    2. Private or public schools for the kids
    3. Medical insurance
    4. Buy or rent a house
    5. Salary expectations

We also havent decided where to live. And of course this is the most important question of all!

Now Im not asking which is a nicer place, because I think all of Australia ia amazing. From what Ive seen at least. But what would make the mose sense? Of course we would want a city, but also somewhere where living expenses are affordable.

    Thanks alot!

    Would really appreciate any feedback

Affordable living expenses....well that certainly cancels out Sydney.

Not sure where you live now, but I would contact the Australian Embassy in your country and see if they can pass on some good sites for you.
Good luck and may we hear more from you.

Sydney is nice to live but very expensive....

i think a lot of your questions the answers will be based on your income.....
the public V private school , IMO it may depend on where you live.
same with the buy V rent , of course buying is better but i think you need to rent first to find out if you like the area.

do you have jobs to come to or relatives to stay with ?

salary will be based on your skill set.

I would like anyone's help in guiding me on some basics.
    1. Monthly expenses
    2. Private or public schools for the kids
    3. Medical insurance
    4. Buy or rent a house
    5. Salary expectations
    1) Monthly expenses vary considerably between locations. In general, capital cities have a higher cost of living than large regional towns or country areas.
    2) Like Sparkles has said, that very much depends on where you choose to call your home. Some areas have very good public schools whereas others do not. It's a decision you can only make once you've decided where you're going to live.
    3) Unless you come from a country which has a reciprocal health agreement with Australia (see this link), you will need to consider how you will fund any health care needed because you may not be covered by Medicare initially. There is information about eligibility for Medicare here. Medicare does not cover dental costs. There are a multitude of private health insurers - iSelect or Choosi are good comparison sites for them.
    4) Whether it's better to buy or rent depends on where you choose to live and how long you will settle there for. A lot of migrants I have met have rented to start off with until they know whether they like the area and then look into buying property. It's much easier to move on if you don't like an area/town/city if you are renting.
    5) Salary depends on what you do for a living. The basic minimum wage currently sits at approximately $600/wk (or $15.96/hr) before tax but if you have a profession or desirable skills, it is likely to be a lot higher. Government positions are sometimes paid higher than private where the profession is covered by an award.

That's about as comprehensive an answer that I can provide with the limited details you've given. Good luck with your application.
