Life of Riley-Women Blogging Monday

What better place to start our new Women blogging feature than with Australia’s, and probably the worlds oldest Woman Blogger, 108 year old, Olive Riley.

Olive has been blogging, with the help of her friend Mike at Life of Riley since February 2007. While she might not be typing herself, she is blogging all the same and her “blob” as she calls it, has gained her thousands of fans from all over the world.

Sharing her tales and photos, reminiscing on her life and history, Olive tells stories of living Australian history. They are a valuable gift that technology enables her to share with everyone.

Olive is inspiring other elderly people to turn to blogging to document their lives and the history they have lived for future generations.

One post that I remember very well, and it is one of her first. She tells the story of how she had all her teeth removed in her lunch hour, without any pain relief at all!

I for one hope I can still be blogging at half her age.

    Thanks, Leigh for a very full report on the amazing Olive who's left us so sad with her recent passing

    Actually, I thought she'd make 110.

    Indeed, when we were in Broken Hill, NSW, making her movie, All about Olive, I saw some olive trees just newly planted.

    I asked the guy watering them when they'd bear fruit. "In 2010," he said.

    "Hey, Ollie," I challenged her." We've got to come back to try
    these in 2010." Olive. She laughed. "Not likely, Mike." She was right.

    But I always believed she'd taste those olives at least.

    We'll keep the blog going for a while, hoping that people will send in stories of their own old folks If we get good ones, we'll post them in memory of olive and someone who inspired so many.

    I came across Olive's 'blob' via Ronni at Time Goes By. I also saw a story on tv a while back. She's sure got stories to tell.

  • Thank you for that link to Ollie! I read just two entries (her most recent and her first). I'm just in awe, and so very touched, that at her age she is getting her story out.
