New spokeswoman for Jenny Craig
I saw an ad on TV today with the new Jenny Craig spokeswoman..Fiona Falkiner, from The Biggest Loser. She has put nearly all the weight that she lost on the show, back on. She is a really beautiful girl, no matter what her weight! But obviously she isn’t happy with herself.
What is the point of this show then? If we already know the methods used on the show are not healthy. And we now see that they are not helping people make long lasting and sticky life changes to help control their weight. While possibly also instilling false hope and expectations into those that are watching.
Is it fair or right to exploit people’s health and emotions for the sake of entertainment?

Absolutely not fair or right, and one reason why I do not watch that kind of reality tv. Losing weight is a difficult thing to do, but of course it is easy on a show like that..

That’s why I don’t watch it because I can do without false expectations myself. I do watch “You Are What You Eat” (I think that’s what it’s called) because at least the host shows them how to make a lifestyle change, what foods they should be eating and exercise in moderation. That’s the hardest thing to learn I think and Biggest Loser just doesn’t remotely offer anything like that to its contestants.
They are all adults and signed up willing to be on the show. I think the bigger issue is, it shows that just dieting temporarily isn’t the answer — to get healthy and stay fit is an ongoing lifestyle change. It would be more responsible if the show provided some sort of follow up care for these folks, rather then leaving them alone once the cameras are turned off. Lady Rose
I agree with what you say on some point but
I have to disagree with you on some points. Most people do keep off the weight that they have lost on the show. I belong to a fernwood club where Damiens mum goes from the show and as far as i know he is still losing the weight. And then theres kristie of the adds. Plus theirs Adro who has kept it off.
Although The amount of exercise they do is unrealistic for most people. they are taught to eat healthy.
Hi Leigh
just wanted to give you the heads up – you are definately not the biggest loser and I have just nominated you as one of the virtual supports I cannot do without – you can see it here if you want to see what I’ve said http://imaginif.com.au/~ima33724/blog/2007/06/20/support-i-virtually-could-not-do-without-it%e2%80%99s-all-about-meme-bitss/

Hi, I just found your blog, and just had to respond.
If people truly want to lose weight, it has to be done with lifestyle changes, not just something to produce the desired effect. It’s not possible for the everyday person to spend 6 hours a day training and eating just enough to keep their bodies going. I commend Ms. Falkiner for admitting that the show didn’t give her the results she sought.
Thanks for the post.
