The links quoted are great review sites but if Helen has time I'd read a few photography forums too because there are always people asking that question and it's good to get feedback from camera owners. Amazon also have great product reviews so if she has a couple of models in mind I'd head for there, incidentally I have bought 2 cameras from Amazon because they were lowest price, with free and fast delivery. Best plan is to work out your budget and take it from there. Be sure to look at the battery performance AND don't forget your camera will come with a small memory card (my latest only took 8 photo's) so you have to buy either a 512mb or a 1GB to snap happy!

I would go to a camera store if possible and compare them there, ask any questions of the camera store staff as well (often they will be better able to answer questions than staff in general electrical stores).

Also, compare prices between stores.
