Thursday Helpdesk-Life Coaching
New to Thursday is the Helpdesk. Do you have a question you would like to find the answer to? Anything you like, Parenting, craft, health and beauty, internet, gadgets…you name it. Send it in, you can remain anonymous if you like, and each Thursday we will put the question out there to see if we can help each other find the answers.
This weeks question (well a couple of questions ) is about Life Coaching.
You hear so much about it these days and I am intrigued, but exactly what is it? What sorts of things can life coaching help you with? Does it really work, would love to hear from ladies with first hand experience. Lastly, how does one go about finding a reputable life coach?
So that is this weeks question. Hopefully there are some women out there that can help us find the answers. Don’t forget, if you have a question you would like to ask, send it in.

Hi there!
I am a Life Coach and what I do is help people realise their very best. It isn’t counselling but a conversation in complete confidence with someone whose ego has no part in solving your issues.
In the past I have helped people get motivated to lose weight, decipher just where some of their relationships were going or were breaking down, deal with frustration, set up a new business, deal with the return of a past love, and so on. I ask you the questions you often don’t want to ask yourself, but in answering them, you find within yourself the answers you need. It isn’t about me telling you what is wrong or what you need to do – I am not you so how can I know what is best for you? What happens is that by you answering the questions, you come to the realisation of what path which is best for you.
If you want to find a reputable coach – first stop is look at the International Coach Federation website. They are the major world wide governing body. The second is to go on word of mouth. A good coach will ask you some upfront questions and just have a general chat to see if the two of you “mesh”. If you don’t or you don’t feel this person is right for you, a good coach will refer you on to another coach at no charge to you.
I am also being coached (funny about that !) and it has been really helpful with dealing with my divorce and with some of the issues I have been having with my kids. One of my clients was literally in tears after one session. She had been declared bakrupt (after a really messy divorce), lost the house and had been raising her daughter for the last 5 years without any help. She felt a total failure as a mother because of all of this. AFter sorting through the mess and issues for a about 15 minutes I asked her to answer a few questions for me – How old was her daughter(15), did she go to school (yes had won a scholarship),did she drink alcohol(no), did she smoke(no) ,did she take drugs (no), was she pregnant (no), who was the major influence in her life (me). Then I asked her that if her daughter was 15, didn’t smoke, drink, do drugs, was in a great school on a scholarship, wasn’t pregnant and that she was her role model – answer me how you have failed her as a mother?
There was silence for about a minute on the other end of the phone then a quiet – I haven’t, have I? came back across the phone. By the end of the session – she was bouncing on a high yelling “I’m awesome and I rock at being a mother!” down the phone.
And that’s what I do as a life coach.
If you would like to know more, drop me a line at wendy@risecoaching.com.au and I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions!
Hi Wendy,
It really has explained much more how it works and what it is all about.
Than you so much for taking the time to share your information with us
Hi Leigh
I am a life coach and I work with people who have relocated and are having trouble settling down in new locations. I help them to decide what they want to do with their new lives, find employment, find friends and find a place to belong. I help them to make a plan for the future and gather the skills they need. I also help them to see things clearly when they are stressed or confused.
I have worked with all sorts of people, young, old, artists and business people. We can all do with an unbiased friend to hold our hands at times. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation and there is more information, FAQs etc on my website http://www.lifeis4living.com.au.
Life coaching is a great job as the clients do such great things.
All the best, Beverly
Well spoken ladies. It is wonderful to hear how you have assisted people to find their truth, their potential, their clarity and their purpose. How often do we find ourselves at a point in life where we might ponder, “I am a good looking, healthy, well educated woman – yet, something is just not working for me, something is missing!” “What is it all about?” We may find ourselves at a crossroad and feel that there is no visible path to follow. This is where a coach can be useful in guiding you to your peace.
The best coach for you is someone you feel you can communicat with, someone who you feel you can trust, and preferably a coach who is qualified.

Hi Leigh
I am a mentor and studying counseling in my country, Greece.Mentoring and counseling are related to Life Coaching. All of them offer intuitive and inspirational assistance to all sorts of people who need to get motivation and self improvement.
Life Coaching provides people with basic life principles to overcome problems , adversities and so learn how to gain confidence.
A life coacher or counselor should be the one you can trust so share with him/her your inner thoughts and insecurities, however very deep inside they are hidden. That means that a life coacher should have all these neccessary qualities to facilitate the coaching approachment.
Basically the most important quality fo coacher or counselor is empathy which means joining with the client so that there is a feeling of togetherness.
By the end I should confirm you my belief that Life Coaching as well as Counseling should be seen from a more spiritual perspective as what holds people in this coaching course is merely faith.
