White Ribbon Day

wrd

Wednesday 25th November is White Ribbon Day.

The aim of White Ribbon Day and the White Ribbon Foundation of Australia is to eliminate violence against women by promoting culture-change around the issue.

The White Ribbon Campaign first began as a way to urge men to speak out against violence against women, but it has now become a fight against all kinds of violence, against women, children and men.

The Facts

  • One in three Australian women will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime.
  • The biggest contributor to illness, injury or premature death for women between 15 and 45 is not smoking or obesity… it’s violence, perpetrated by a husband, boyfriend or ex-partner.
  • More than one Australian woman every week is killed by her partner or ex-partner.
  • Violence against women and their children costs the Australian economy over $15.1 billion each year including costs in terms of health, work absenteeism, police and court costs.

These statics are frightening! Where your White Ribbon on the 25th to show your support for eliminating domestic and family violence.

    Thanks…made a note.

It's shocking how common domestic violence is. I know many women who have been (or are still) victims of it so perhaps it shouldn't be that suprising to me, but it still is.
