    Awesome idea.

Right now , I want to save for a fixed lens for my camera. They are unfortunately expensive (half what the camera cost & more) but capturing the looks on my kids faces is priceless to me ! $100 would give me an awesome start!

I'm giving up disorganisation , chaos & disorder.

#1 Pay my bills on time to save on late payment fees.
#2 Listing all the food I have so I don't waste it because it goers out of date …and
#3 Menu planning to save on last minute takeaway because I have nothing prepared for dinner
#4 Take my own water bottles & soft drinks & snacks for all the family when we go out on daytrips/beach etc …ok still buy some meals out but budget and stick to it.

    Febusave I joined it too…

We are paying extra money off our mortgage & our car loan so that we can get rid of the debt sooner, hence saving us a heap of interest.

I have also given up buying craft magazines, at $10 a pop it was an expensive habit. That money is now going into the kids school fees account :)

Cut up the credit card and get a Debit Credit Card! Save not only a fortune in interest and fees, but straight away you think very differently about what you are buying when you know you are using your own money instead of the banks credit!

I've given up buying bottled water and filling up my own bottle

I am 41 and I paid off my 2 br apt by the time I was 40.
I dont have a well paying job but heres what I do is……….
    - As soon as I get paid, at least HALF of it gets put aside on another account.
-Then I make sure my weekly bills are paid….I do this via Bpay on internet banking, done religiously as soon as I get paid……..
-This way when bills come monthly, they are already paid!
-Then whatever is left, is what I call my play money.
This works for me and Im trying to teach this methods to my partner.
He really likes it when the bills comes and the balance is actually in CREDIT!

Going on 3 years of quitting smoking and literally have saved over 20K in that time period, difficult but well worth it financially and health wise. Actually able to save $$ now instead of throwing them away

Have a budget and stick to it.
We collect all the loose change my husband would otherwise spend on treats, it really adds up over a year.
Plan meals to cut down on take away food.
    No more Cafe coffees.
Buy in bulk when items are on special.
Where possible, walk instead of drive.
Use cheap and free entertainment options – family movie night, games night, reading, drawing, going to the park, beach or playground.
When offered a discount, pay in full ( great for saving on school fees).
Consider selling off unwanted goods that are in good condition – garage sale or ebay (better to re-use than send to the tip)
Don't window shop – easy way to cut impulse spending.

  8. Ros says:

I have learnt to be frugal after raising a family of five on the same income as I had when I was single. It becomes a lifestyle habit and there's no need to GIVE UP.

  9. Lisa says:

Nana's gone, a wise woman she taught me a thing or two,
Darn socks, sew clothes, budget, knit and 'make do',
With a stock pot for leftovers I make a weekly stew,
Her advice saves me a bundle and my bills are never overdue.

  10. Bexx110 says:

We are renovating and on a strict budget. I always ring round for quotes on items before I buy. Then when I go to the store, I negotiate a better cash discount. this can save hundreds of dollars.

  11. sandymg says:

I never spend $5 notes. I have a special pocket in my purse and once that reaches $50, that goes into my savings account. Amazing how quickly that mounts up.

  12. A friend recently told me that if you fill a 600ml coke bottle with $2 coins, it add up to $1000. My bottle is only about 1/5th full and Smartypig sounds like a much better saving plan!
